Yes, I know I'm a day behind, but that's okay because nobody on my friends list posted about it that I can recall and it doesn't matter if they did because I saw it with my own eyes and I can't believe it and I hope it's done properly and OOOOOOOOO!!! I can't WAIT!!!

Superdad!
(Later, when he learned that General Zod and the other Phantom Zone prisoners were on Earth, he went back to the Fortress and reversed the process to fight them. When they fought him there, they forced him to go through the process again, but he cleverly reversed the machine so that while he was safe in his chamber, the three Kryptonian criminals lost their powers. He subdued them and sent them back to the Phantom Zone. He later used a "super amnesia kiss" to remove Lois' memories of his secret identity. Yes, lame and cheesey, but hey, so were the Superman comics throughout the 70s.)
Superman Returns takes place approx. five years after the events in Superman II, hence the kid - which, I believe is the ONLY place in Superman lore where he and Lois have a child.
But yeah, you do have to suspend a lot of disbelief, especially the whole Kryptonian-mating-with-an-Earthling thing. Personally, I like the description of Superman/Lois sex in Mallrats:
T.S. Quint: But they're engaged.
Brodie: Doesn't matter, can't happen.
T.S. Quint: Why not? It's bound to come up.
Brodie: It's impossible, Lois could never have Superman's baby. Do you think her fallopian tubes could handle the sperm? I guarantee you he blows a load like a shotgun right through her back. What about her womb? Do you think it's strong enough to carry her child?
T.S. Quint: Sure, why not?
Brodie: He's an alien, for Christ sake. His Kyrptonian biological makeup is enhanced by earth's yellow sun. If Lois gets a tan the kid could kick right through her stomach. Only someone like Wonder Woman has a strong enough uterus to carry his kid. The only way he could bang regular chicks is with a kryptonite condom. That would kill him.
Really.
And yes, that scene in Mallrats is exactly what I'm talking about. Apparently there's an essay floating around somewhere titled "Man of Steel, Women of Tissue Paper" that goes into the medical details. I wanna read.
