I know mysteries are not for everyone, but if you're ever in the mood to attempt a mystery story again, here are a few suggestions:
I recommend at least browsing through one of Agatha Christie's Tommy & Tuppence mysteries. Unlike Christie's other detectives (Poirot, Miss Marple) who are more old and stuffy, Tommy and Tuppence are a young fun couple who start out (in The Secret Adversary) trying to blackmail people and end up becoming detectives.
Have you read the Dresden files books? They're mysteries (at least the first few; I haven't read the whole series) and they're fun and different.
Also, for modern-day real-world mysteries, I like the Tess Monaghan series by Laura Lippman. Tess is a pretty kickass woman.
