Goddess I am FREEZING!!!!

My house was a nice 48 degrees when I got up this morning.

Tonight? A toasty 58. I'm sitting next to the living room floor heater, but Mist has hogged the entire thing. Hoggy cat. He has fur. I don't. But he is about 20 years older then me, cat-to-human year conversions being what they are, so I won't kick him off.

Snake-boy has it the best. Basking lamp, hot pack, 3-4 layers of warm cotton wrapped around the entire cage. His thermometer is reading 82. Not the best temp for his species, but I can't do much else for him. YES, Miss Jamie, I got your email. I don't have a bread stone or a small heater I can aim at him. I'm really doing the best I can.

He's the warmest place in the house!

For the record, I checked him again this evening when I filled his water dish. He is still alive and breathing fine. No wheezing or rasping. I expect he'll get hungry in, oh, two weeks or so.

Why is the house so cold? Is there a specific problem, or is it just under-insulated?

The downstairs suffers from decent drafts from both doors and at least one window in the living room.
