So I got ANOTHER letter from SSA today, saying "Sorry, we paid you when we shouldn't have since Oct. 2010."

October 2010.

WHEN I FUCKING FILED FOR SURVIVOR'S BENEFITS AND THEY FUCKING GAVE THEM TO ME!!!

No. Because I made thousands and thousands over $14kandchange/year, I not only not get benefits for Cuteness, but I have to FUCKING PAY THEM BACK!!!!

I called to file an appeal and was told point blank "You made too much."

"So I can't file an appeal?"

"No. Not unless you start working less or retire."

"So I have to pay you back?"

"Yes."

"When?"

"You'll get a notice."

So! I now get to wait for a notice to pay back $9600, AND try to find roughly $800 in my budget.

Cutting out karate and taking the cable away will only net me about $190, tops. I can also call the CHP people and get the kiddo's insurance reduced back to $9/each, which will net me another $42. I pay off the last credit card bill, and that gets me about another $125.

You see where this is going, yes?

Guess it's time to hit the papers and find a part time job. So much for, oh, the rest of my life. Looks like Panthea will be my Last Hurrah. I'm dancing my bloody heart out.

Talk to a lawyer, one who specializes in dealing with the SSA. Your options may be as limited as you fear, but it's surprising what a lawyer can do.
