Porcelain Drama

So about two weeks ago I discovered the downstairs toilet was running.

I checked the rubber plug that sometimes doesn't drop properly and that was fine. Looking around, I discovered the little spout that fills the tank from the supply hose was running. And running. And running. I poked the intake column and jiggled the float. Nope, still running.

*sigh*. I turned the water off at the valve and informed the kiddos that using the downstairs toilet would require turning the water on and off until I could get it repaired. I knew I could fix this, all I needed was the part.

Last weekend I got the part and sat down to Do This with the Teenager. We followed the directions until told to unscrew the supply hose.

Now I don't know about your toilets, LJ-land, but mine seems to have a fused hose. The diagram with the part showed a hand twisting the hose free, la de da. Yeah, no. I sent the Teenager on a hunt for a wrench with no luck.

Yesterday I bought myself a new tool kit plus wrenches to take the hose off. I sat down again to Do This, with music!

Half an hour later, I have a lovely puddle soaking into one of the Teenager's shirts and a towel and the hose is maybe a third released. I can see threads! I managed to twist the assembly! But I cannot get the damned thing off.

Teenager came home and tried as well. He even moved the storage shelves to get more room to twist. Nope. Not happening.

*SIGH*

I wanted to get this fixed before company comes Saturday, but at this point I need either a Manly Man or some kind of rust dissolver/lube/magic fluid. I am a strong independent woman with a driver's license and a tool kit!

Might have to wait for a Polar Bear. Bears are strong.

Grrrrrr

rust dissolver. Grab a container of engine oil from your car/garage. open it, stick your finger in, then rub the oil on that joint. let it sit a bit then try again.

good luck!
