For gods' sake, act different!
I had one of my problem customers call this morning. Let's call him G. I recognize his voice pretty quickly, but go through the usual routine. When I ask for a name, I get something else. Thinking "oh good, it's not him", I ask for a date of loss. "Ma'am. Get me a supervisor." That's when I knew. Trying very hard not to laugh in G's face, I try a number, then ask if he wants to leave a message. "Ma'am, Find me a supervisor. This is about this." Nothing involving the supervisor he originally asked for. I finally get the correct supervisor and explain that this is who he _said_ he was, but this is who I think it is. The poor sup said "Oh, really? Send him through."
*ironic laugh* Y'know, I would not have minded dealing with G if he had been truthful with me. I know he doesn't like getting me because I'm "just the operator", but when you don't dial a direct extension, I'm who you get. And G has been bounced around a LOT because he's rude and never leaves messages. Always MUST talk to a supervisor. He gets my challenge juices going, but I never let that come through in my voice. Now it's getting to the point that I just want to laugh at him and say "Sir, if you can't answer my question, I can't help you." As it is I have to remind him my questions are standard procedure. Every fricking time he calls. I just don't want to be yelled at for doing my job, which I KNOW he'll do. He's already called both us operators incompetent because we ask questions.
At the very least, he should've tried to disguise his voice or just answered my questions without falling into his usual rudeness. Then, I might have believed he was who he said he was.
Ok, so the supervisor came back and said it was the other party. I explained why I suspected him and he agreed it was suspicious and they're looking into it further. Nothing is a coincidence, two guys having the exact same tone, inflection and turn of phrase when talking to me is too curious. These calls are recorded, they can go back and listen. It sounds like the same guy.
