I'm at 33 weeks even. Not quite sure how that happened, but ok!

115 on the scale, three pounds gained. Go me, go me, go me. *happy dance*

Spotting started this morning, an increase in discharge had started about Saturday. Explained this as well as reported the occasional strong contraction to Dr. K. and a nurse I haven't seen prior to this. They confirmed the blood in the urine and did a full exam.

"Looks like you have a vaginal infection going. Here's another script. And oh, by the way, (not really) you've dilated to 1 cm." This is not so good, as two weeks ago my cervix was completely closed. The infection could be a reason, also all the walking we did Sunday might have finally caught up to me. I doubt the walking, probably the infection and the timing. I'm one week away from Zero Hour, so to speak. After next Tuesday, any labor starting will be allowed to continue. They scheduled another ultrasound for Tuesday, before my now-weekly appointment, just to check up on Becca. She's still breech and showing no signs of wanting to turn. Frankly, I think she doesn't like being on her head. Probably makes her dizzy or something. ^_^

So, everything's looking ok for the most part. Just some minor issues that can be cleared up with antibiotics. I'm still much better off then when I was preggers with the kiddo, so I consider this positive.

And I'm craving creamy sweet like a bear trying to bulk up for hibernation. Hence the chocolate cream torte currently sitting on the counter. ^_^

Nearly six full days of work for Adecco/JP Morgan broken out over two weeks. It couldn't have come at a better time, really. We really needed the help with the car payment and getting the furniture bill completely caught up. Next up, Sam's club! Whee!

I'm told there's another peak time due in about three weeks, after the first of April. The first shift supervisor agreed to call me back, so keep your fingers crossed. With any luck, I'll be able to do the time. Heeheehee.

Seriously, I'm glad it's done. A shift of four days, one day off, then two more days, all but one with overtime, was harder on me then I thought it would be. Case in point. Came home tonight and dozed off for about ten minutes in the chair, then after the kiddo was in bed laid down on the couch and sacked out for about an hour and a half. Once I'm done with this update, I'm heading right back to bed. Everyone in the house agrees I need a two week vacation to just rest. Boy, this carrying a baby to term thing is harder then I thought!

I'm in what I'm calling the 'red zone' with the pregnancy. It was right around this time, 32 weeks, when I went into labor the first time and delivered two weeks later. I caught myself counting contractions and chugging water during the last two hours of work today, while at the same time making contingency plans in my head for getting to the hospital if I couldn't reach any of the family (everyone was running around this afternoon: Wolf was at work, Drya & her eldest were at the doctor's, S and Mom were getting her new car, leaving C at home to watch the kiddos. NOBODY available to come get me right away). I had it all figured out. Either have someone at the office drive me over or call an ambulance, then get ahold of Adecco and have THEM call Wolf's work, as I don't have his work number and our new cell phones don't work in either place of business. Once he was notified, he could go ahead and call Drya, who was my ride today, cause my cell phone was dead, dead, dead.

Note to self: memorize the new cell phone numbers!

Queenie is a logistical person. For any given situation, she likes to have at least two plans of action.

But right now, the only plan is catching up on sleep. Night, everyone!
bloodsong1: (Default)

Spent most of last week working.  This is good, as it means the car payment won't be late and we'll be able to pay all of the mid month bills roughly on time.  Might delay the phone bill by a few days, just to be on the safe side.  Depends on how the numbers look next Thursday.

I do have one more day on this gig, but after that, I don't know.  Four days in a row was rougher then I expected it to be, despite always having a ready source of water and taking Tylenol for the siatica (or however it's spelled, damned hip nerve) that decided to come back for the third trimester.  I can't sit, stand, lie down or walk without pain.  It's very frustrating.

Wow, after 10 already.  Have I mentioned how much I hate daylight savings time?  And the bastards started it two months early.

I'm going to bed.

bloodsong1: (Default)
Barely 2 degrees outside and school's been closed.

I have NEVER seen school closed due to extreme cold until today.

The grown-ups are gonna have fun keeping four kiddos entertained today.

Fortunately, I have an appointment! *cackles*

Edit: Doctor's appointment went well. I'm up to 112 pounds, slow but steady progress there. 31 weeks and counting. Four more weeks of pre-term labor tests and then if I start, it's "let 'er ride". Whee!

Also, Becca has revealed a tendency to hang out transverse across my belly instead up head down. According to the ultrasound two weeks ago, she was breech. Doc made the joke she'd better figure out which way is down soon. My response, "Already showing she's her father's daughter." Wolf nodded sheepishly. ^_^
bloodsong1: (Lilly)
Well, we don't know why you're spotting, but no, it's not good. Keep up with the water and the rest.

Now for the good news:

I'm not 30 weeks. I'm 28.

I gained 1.75 pounds in two weeks.

All the tests they could process quickly (UTI and pre-term swab) came back negative. So I'm not in danger of going into labor in the next two weeks.

My cervix has not changed.

I now am in possession of a 3-D image of Becca's face. KAWAIIIIIIIIIIIII!!! Wolf got all misty looking at her.

Starbucks in the hospital is sold at cost. Whoot! When I can have coffee again, SO getting my first cup there!

Going to take a nap now. Haven't had one all day and boy am I feeling it. The bloodwork will show if there's an infection lurking somewhere else.

Wolf got home from Baltimore last night about 1130. I had been having contractions for the last half hour and was getting a little freaked out. Keeping count, as most of them were actually painful, I called the Women's Health Center about midnight and explained the situation. 5 contractions in an hour, plus a feeling of always needing to pee.

"Yeah, that's too many. Come on in." The doc on call says.

So, after spending all day in Baltimore AND driving 4+ hours home, Wolf then drives me to the hospital.

They whisk me upstairs, hook me up to a fetal monitor and do a quick check of BP. I explain my symptoms again and the nurse comes back with a 32 oz glass of ice water.

"Here, drink this so we can get a urine sample." (I had forgotten I needed to hold it. ^_^;;)

So I chug about half the glass, and ten minutes later they have their sample.

Nurse comes back, takes and processes the sample, then comes again with a shot of anti-contraction medicine.

"This will go faster then if you take a pill." She explains, sticking me in the arm.

An undetermined amount of time later, she again returns and informs me to finish that water or else I'll get an IV.

I focus on drinking the water, while Wolf reminds me that my fluid intake is about half what it should be and it's all been fruit juice, not water.

>_<

Finally, three hours and cat naps by both Wolf and myself later, the nurse comes back, taps me awake and informs me I'm clear to leave. It was probably dehydration, get more rest and for gods sake, drink more water!

We get home about a quarter till five.

Don't get to bed until almost six.

Needless to say, Wolf didn't go into work today. He was too exhausted. Together we probably didn't get more then 6 hours of sleep between 1130 last night and noon today, on top of a full day prior.

I'm still having the stronger contractions, plus I developed spotting about 530 am today. It hasn't stopped completely, seems to come in drips over the course of about six hours. On the positive side, I've downed 3 glasses of water, 8-10 oz each, on top of 8 oz of fortified milk and 2 8-10 oz of juice. This is consistent with my fluid intake from yesterday, except it was all juice and no milk.

Here's hoping the water continues to help. I have an appointment tomorrow morning, we'll see what my OBGYN says. I'm two days shy of 30 weeks.

Braxton-Hicks contractions

WebMD Braxton-Hicks Contractions -- False labor pains.

Babycenter.com Braxton Hicks are sporadic uterine contractions that actually start at about 6 weeks, although you won't be able to feel them that early. You probably won't start to notice them until sometime after midpregnancy, if you notice them at all (some women don't). They get their name from John Braxton Hicks, an English doctor who first described them in 1872.

As your pregnancy progresses, Braxton Hicks contractions tend to come somewhat more often, but until you get to your last few weeks, they should remain infrequent, irregular, and essentially painless. Sometimes, though, Braxton Hicks are hard to distinguish from early signs of preterm labor.

Play it safe and don't try to make the diagnosis yourself. If you haven't hit 37 weeks yet and you're having four or more contractions in an hour, or have any other signs of preterm labor, call your caregiver immediately.

By the time you're within a couple of weeks of your due date, these contractions may get more intense and more frequent, and cause some discomfort. Unlike the earlier painless and sporadic Braxton Hicks contractions that caused no obvious cervical change, these may help your cervix "ripen": gradually soften and efface, and maybe even begin to dilate a bit. This period is sometimes referred to as "pre-labor."

So, yeah.

That's what I've been having for, oh, about a week now. Had two while I was being examined today, causing the PA to become a little...concerned. My OBGYN, Dr. Kass, ran a swab test and checked my cervix. I'm currently at 28 weeks. The swab test, designed to show positive/negative, has one purpose. If positive, I've got a 50/50 chance of going into labor in the next two weeks. If negative, everything's fine. The exam revealed I'm a little "soft" and a tiny bit dilated, which isn't uncommon in a second pregnancy. The ultrasound looked really good and I'm not showing signs of dehydration or infection. Course, that was probably the 12 ounces of yucky glucose soda I had to drink for my diabetes bloodwork an hour prior.

The text came back negative.

What does this all mean?

Keep taking it easy, keep watching for other signs; cramping, bleeding, lower back pain or painful contractions and a sudden increase in discharge (read: mucus plug or water breaking), and drink more liquids.

I've been trying to ignore the bloody tightening, as thinking about it will only make me freak out. Wog is still happily squirming around, she loves to start punching me when I lay on my left side. Another appointment in two weeks, they'll do another cervix exam and proceed from there. On a much more positive note, I'm up to 108. Whoo.

IT'S A GIRL!!!!

One side of my face is rounder then the other. Maybe sleeping on my left side so much is squishing my cheek?

Officially, I have gained 3 pounds in 2 weeks. This is excellent, keep up the good work. Yes, adding whey protein to my diet would be a good thing, also those Carnation Instant breakfast things again. Ultrasound is next week, appointment and diabetes test the week after that. Whee. Keep watching for any further signs of pre-term labor, now including backache and a fullness feeling in the pelvis, meaning the baby has dropped into the birth canal. Pollywog's laying transverse, meaning the head is on the left and the feet are on the right from my perspective. C-sections were briefly discussed and will only be used if a)Wog's too big for me to push out, b)there's an emergency or c) Wog goes breech and the doctor can't coax a 180 degree turn from manipulating my tummy. Inducement will not be used unless absolutely necessary. And oh yes, if you feel any labor symptoms, call the facility immediately and get my hiney into the hospital, any time. Other then that, I'm completely healthy and the heartbeat sounds great. Next big step is the ultrasound to make sure there aren't any visable deformities or signs of complications.

I need a drink. Where's the juice?
bloodsong1: (Lilly)
Who cares if it's 5 am? Can't breathe? Get up and post! In about fifteen minutes, the sinuses will be cooperative again and I'll be able to sleep without mouth-breathing.

Gods I hate mouth-breathing.

So! Update, of sorts.

Got my WIC checks. Whoot! WIC is one of the best programs, even with the restrictions. I get to shop at Wegmans! *does happy Wegmans dance* For my Westerly friends, Wegmans is like Whole Foods. Upscale, HUGE, filled with all kinds of food goodness and yeah, about as expensive as Whole Foods too. Bah. Only place I've seen where food prices are comparable to CO. Can you believe we can get whole milk, by the gallon, mind you, and in local grocery stores, for less then $3.00? It's amazing and it tastes sooo much better!

Anyhew, nutritionist at WIC looked over my 'eating chart', that pink form they insist everyone fills out so they know how much of everything you're eating daily and weekly. Yes, yes, not bad, but you're low on protein and vegetables and oh, yes, you shouldn't be drinking whole milk because of the milk fat content. See theese little clear plastic cups with glue in them? That's how much fat you're drinking, no good. Clogs your arteries, no matter how small you are. We'll let you have 2 %, but we'd prefer it if you got down to 1 %. Yes, it does help you gain weight, but it's bad for you. Eat more protein, that will help you gain better weight.

*gag* White water, that's what 1 % is. Even out here. And do you know why I gained two pounds in a week and a half? Pudding! Swiss Miss pudding made with real cream!

Well, that and making sure I eat whenever I get hungry, listening to the cravings and following through on them, which results in me eating about five times a day. Yes, yes, that's good, make it six times a day. Three meals and three snacks, and maybe try drinking some of those Carnation Instant breakfasts AFTER your meal. Not before, or you'll feel full. And no, not Ensure. Carnation.

Wolf and I agreed the WIC lady, who was a very nice Taiwanese whom we surprised more then once with our admissions of liking Aisan foods, was simply following FDA regs because, well, that's her job. One size fits all diet plan based on latest research. *snort* I'm planning on talking to the nutritionist on the 23rd and seeing if that one, the OBGYN-approved one, will try for something more personalized for me and my requirements or not. Because the last time a medical professional wanted me to gain, it was Ensure Plus and ice cream. Granted, that was seven years ago and they were trying to put the weight on me fast. But you know what? It worked better then anything else.

Speaking of cravings, I want some juice.

*wanders off*

Whee!

I have health coverage! *does the happy Medicaid dance* Just in time too, as I got a call from my OBGYN's office today. "Guess what! Your pap smear came back indicating a possible infection! Having any itching, burning, discharge, etcetera?" Um, yeah, a little discharge that looked different. "Ok! Have a script! We'll send it to the pharmacy of your choice." So we sent it to Sam's Club. No idea how much it's gonna be, as I'm not suffering from any other symptoms, I'll wait until I get my temporary card, which should be in a few days. In the meantime, I'll call the pharmacy tomorrow, find out how much it's gonna be, and if it's not too expensive, we can pick it up and petition for a reimbursement.

So now me, the Pollywog and Markl's covered for at least until July. Then Markl and I have to renew, Wog's covered for a full year after delivery.

And I was informed my ultrasound can't be done until 1/30. I could call the OBGYN, see if they can put me on immediate referral, or just wait the next 15 days. Wolf didn't seem to show a preference either way, simply expressed impatience in wanting to see Wog. ^_^

Still need stubs for Wolf, his office is working on it. His paycheck was mailed Friday, we should get it probably Wednesday.

Other then that, things are well on our front. No ice storms, just lots of rain with the possibility of rink-roads later on in the week. *shrug* Welcome to global warming.
bloodsong1: (Lilly)
Nothing really. This isn't a game show, this is my life. Which was not really a game show, but was a television show. What, you thought Sesame Street made that up??

Had my doctor's appointment yesterday. Yes, I am at significant risk for another pre-term baby. Currently sitting at 23 + weeks, which means I'm shy of 24 weeks. More then 5 months along, for whomever's counting. The magic numbers are 28 weeks and 34 weeks. After 34 weeks, they don't do any preventative treatment for pre-term labor. Before 28 weeks, it's magnesium and steroid shots, between 28 and 34 it's a different medication and steroid shots. Bed rest is mandatory in both cases.

The good news is I'm 102 lbs, my tummy measures 22 cm, or was it 27? *shrug* I'm right where I'm supposed to be size-wise and the heartbeat is strong and steady. I'm at the 'visit every two weeks' stage, so the next appointment is the 23rd, and I will be seeing a nutritionist the same day, as Wolf and I are pretty sure malnutrition and dehydration was what triggered Markl's early birth. Yes, I was in a bad, bad state back then, as I explained to the social worker after the exam and bloodwork was done. They drew 7 vials of blood and blew two veins in my left arm before trying my right and finding a good gusher. Some of that might have been my own focused "Let the blood flow" mantra. ^_^

Yeah, I had to see a social worker. Part of the procedure for expectant mothers at this clinic. Ended up talking to her for over an hour, yeesh. Lots of baggage, Queenie has, from the eating disorder she still hasn't kicked to the verbal and emotional abuse from the ex-husband. My two brief bouts of professional counselling didn't touch the eating disorder at all, so I was diagnosed as 'depressed'. Came home with a folder stuffed full of useful information, including several pamphlets from the social worker for free to low cost counseling, parenting assistance and breastfeeding support. There's a fabulous network here in NY for preggie ladies and I'm tickled.

Right now the plan is to keep eating, ^_^ rest whenver I need it, and keep a weather eye out for pre-term labor symptoms. Cramps, contractions, bleeding. I can work unless that starts up, then it's mandatory bed rest and meds prior to 34 weeks. Doesn't sound like my doctor is going to do preventative bed rest, yay!

I have resigned myself to riding around in a wheelchair or motorized cart when we go shopping from now until the baby comes. I feel silly, but it's really much easier on my pelvis. Especially with the way this family shops. ^_^ Wanderers, the lot of them.

I have not had an ultrasound yet, I have to schedule that today with a different office. Should be able to get in right away, whoot!

I think I'm going to lay down after Markl's on the bus. The kitties kept me awake last night.
bloodsong1: (Default)
Day Two! There's an anime store here! Anime and manga and a bunch of really cool posters and Queenie is a happy, happy otaku. There's also at least one small Asian market that we spotted. Do you know what this means? Sweet rice! Whoo hooo! Although we had to leave the rice cooker behind, but that's ok. I will learn how to cook it on the stove.

So! Progress report, such as it is.

Got the car and life insurance transferred. Rental insurance is staying under CO policies until such time as we move our stuff out. Since we're not formally renting, there's no need to change the coverage. Once we get our own place, the policy will cover stored goods, no matter where it's stored. I heart State Farm.

DMV was the quietest I had ever seen. Yay for small counties. We gathered the necessary paperwork and gave the DMV Wells Fargo's info so they can get the title. This process could take days and will cost over $100. Good news is we have the money, most of the fees are one time only shots dealing with inter-state transfers and the registration covers two years. Compare this with the $300+ CO wanted to register Sherzi for ONE year. Yep, I'm loving New York. Even more so because...

PCAP, the state pre-natal program, does not have residency requirements. ^_^ I have an appoitment on the 15th to go see them and get set up and they're sending me paperwork to fill out. I have all the necessary documents, except proof of pregnancy. *glances at tummy, now prominently rounded* Yeah, no official doctor's note confirming due date, which is what PCAP needs. I can fix this two ways. Call the clinic where I had the pregnancy confirmed and see if they'll fax over that particular record, or get an appointment with the Women's Health Center here. The appointment would be retro-paid once PCAP confirms I'm eligible. And there's the simple fact that I haven't seen a doctor at ALL. So I'm going with the latter. I intend to call them today and get in next week. I've been assured by everyone in the know that when I tell the clinic I haven't had any pre-natal care and I've already started the process with PCAP, they'll see me no problem.

Markl's registered for school, mostly. We need to take in some paperwork stating yes, we live at this address with relatives and they are happy to have us, and apparently there's one set of shots still not confirmed. I've called the kiddo's clinic and requested that info be faxed over, and the school itself has requested that with the records from Arkansas Elementary. He starts Monday, regardless. Everyone in the office was incredibly nice and Wolf kept having flashbacks, as this is his elementary school. I was feeling strangly nostalgic myself.

Today's goals are getting the rest of the DMV paperwork turned in, the school paperwork turned in, and calling for my appointment. Oh yes, and get gas. ^_^ Yes, it's more expensive out here, by about 40 cents, but it's still well below $3.00, so I'm not complaining. We'll also need to pick up some basic school supplies, as everything we bought in the fall was kept by Arkansas. Kiddo's got his backpack and lunch box and three folders. ^_^

I'd like to get registered with Kelly Temp services today, but still having the kiddo may prove difficult. Yes, Mother Alyce is willing to watch him, but we can wait until the next work week. At least I'll be able to say, Yes, I'm on call anytime, cause I don't have to worry about daycare! Whoot!

Ugh.

I have caught Wolf's cold. Ducky.

Left work about 1215, came home, made myself comfy in bed with tea and cookies and Ipod and tissues and trash bag and Tylenol and the portable DVD player and what movies we haven't packed and settled in.

Napped off and on for about three hours, woke up, ate some more cookies and banana bread (Thank you Doc! It's soooo yummy!). Checked my temp off and on, it was 98+ and climbing. Checked it again about 15 minutes ago and it's hit 100.

Anything over 101, I have to go to the hospital. Cause the last time I was sick and pregnant, I didn't go and my midwife chewed me OUT. Markl and I were fine, but the risk is still there. I don't expect to. Tylenol is working very well. I've only had two doses total today and the first dose kept the fever under control for about six hours.

Wolf promised to bring me home orange juice. I can't wait. Craving like a mofo.

Not sure about going in tomorrow, we'll see how I feel in the morning.

I'm heading back to bed.

Oh yeah. Christmas went well. Markl made out like a bandit, again, with mostly small, easily portable toys. Wolf and I got a trenching shovel for the car, bunch of Christmas goodies and a little stork ornament. Heh. Nice thought, but we have NO PLACE to put it. I left it behind. Also got two dollars wrapped around some silver plastic icicles and Mom informs me "Bring those back before you leave and they'll change." Took me a few minutes to figure out she meant the cash and not the icicles. Not sure what she's planning, I'm guessing give them the two bucks and we'll get 10, maybe 20 for the trip. I'll play along, every little bit helps. Bgers was there, filmed the present time and we all got along great. Turns out the kid popped the question to his lady friend Christmas Eve. My little brother's engaged! Whoot!

With any luck I'll be invited to the wedding. ^_^

NOW I'm going back to bed.

Um, does anyone remember/have access to appropriate material/guess off the tops of their heads just how much wiggle room a 5 month old (roughly) fetus has in a womb?

Cause I swear, I'm feeling the flutters and possible actual kicks (which could just as easily be gas) on both sides of my abdomen.

When I mentioned this to Wolf last night, he looked at me and said "From what I remember, after the zygote stage, the womb isn't all that woomy."

*snerk*

I couldn't turn a pun that well even if I WASN'T trying! Which is when all my puns slip out.

I just felt the baby move! A little fluttering that lasted a few seconds.

*cuddles her belly*
bloodsong1: (Lilly)
Fact: It's barely above 0 degrees outside.

Fact: Queenie + cold = blanket-wrapped Queenie with a mug of hot cocoa in her hands. With marshmallows.

So WHY is it that in the middle of all this freezing-ness, I dream about spending 15 bloody minutes in a Jamba Juice trying to decide what I want and THEN wake up craving a smoothie?

*drinks a cocktail of hand-squeezed grapefruit juice, water and two scoops of instant strawberry lemonade mix*

Maybe T would agree to taking me to a Jamba Juice if I offered to treat him. He has been really sweet about giving me a ride and I don't exactly have gas cash on me.

In other, less insane news:

Shippo's here! He's in his box in the complex office waiting pickup. I'm hoping I can get him today, if not, it'll have to be Saturday. S'all good though. He got here before the 7th.

I'll make sure he gets lots of cuddles before handing him off to T. I doubt T will cuddle a plushie. And you know how plushies are. They need as many cuddles as kiddos. *nodnodnod*

Wasn't this supposed to be LESS insane?

Oh shut up.
bloodsong1: (Default)
Friday was spent cleaning the house, as the club dinner had been bumped to Saturday. Took me all day, as I was dallying online whenever I got breathless (about once an hour), but I got most of it done. ^_^

Saturday we dropped off the kiddo with ex-MIL and headed back home. Company not due until 7 at the earliest and it was only noon. I was already in need of new pants, so we hit the ARC. Thankfully, there were only about a dozen shoppers.

$55.00 later, we walked out with three pairs of size 8 pants (make a note of that, people. Queenie's in size 8!!!), six turtleneck sweaters, three pairs of wool socks and Duck boots. Yes, we found boots! Thick, glompy, hunting-grade boots. I informed Wolf that I didn't care about the statement it would make, I wanted to make sure my tootsies could handle NY winters.

We ran the numbers after I heard the total and winced a little. For $55, we got about $400 worth of clothes retail. I snagged a pair of Talbot's petite wool pants at $4, which alone go for about $30, and those duck boots we paid $12 for easily run $60-$75.

Yay for thrift stores!

We'll have to go back and buy a few pairs of size tens for the spring. Cause the odds are good I'll break that barrier by the third trimester. O_O

Please keep in mind, last time I was preggers, I was about a size 4. I wore 6s, with belts to keep them on. Before I delivered, I bought two pairs of size 8 jeans and marveled. About a month before I delivered, mind you.

Nothing in or around the birth canal. Spots of dried blood, well, elsewhere. No signs of rips or other physical damage.

And the bleeding seems to have finally stopped. (We'll see if that statement holds true after the walk to the bus stop.)

I'm guessing one of the curses of pregnant women.

Hemarroids. Or however it's spelled.

Um, yay?

Still bleeding. Enough to soak a pad through over the course of a full 9 hours.

So, not enough to freak out about, but gods, this is getting annoying. I don't wanna run around in pads all day!

Have a pretty strong suspicion on where it's coming from. Need to have Wolf check to confirm, but if I'm right, then absolutely no more nookie.

This sucks so bad.
