I need some help. I'm trying to find information on how electricty will react with magnetic fields.

Specifically, what would happen to a magnetic field when electricity is applied directly to it. I'm thinking it would result in some kind of feedback loop, where the electricity increases the power of the field until one or both overloads.

If I'm wrong, please, please let me know. Links to appropriate sites or suggestions for reading material would be greatly appreciated.
