It was a nice funeral
Oct. 25th, 2004 09:37 pmPat was cremated and another old fried of ours peformed a lovely pagan ceremony for her and scattered her ashes in and around a stream that feeds into Helen Hunt Falls. Wolf helped by driving Rev. up, finding the place, and holding the bag. Yes, they toted her remains up in a clear plastic bag. That, I felt, was a little tacky, but other then that, things went fairly well. Gumby-chan didn't give a eulogy (sp?) like he was asked, sulked, got drunk, and got into a political argument with another guest. Nat took them home, which saved us the trouble, thank the gods. The wake was flooded with angst of various forms, but Cap'n actually spoke to me and called me by my name, YAY!, I was complimented on my dress whites and the kiddo was a trooper. All in all, it was a fairly good time for a sad time, you know?
Gumby-chan seems to have returned to his normal self; sleeping all day, waking up to make dinner, then heading out to the shop. Again, Thank the gods! I can deal with him much more easily when he's on the opposite schedule from me. This is clearly a case of "good friend, bad roommate". We were promised a lot of things that haven't been followed up on, most of them involving the kiddo. Wolf and I are looking for rental properties, preferably a condo or townhome. There's a lot here in our price range and better stocked then what we were seeing in the Springs. We figure tax time will be the best time for us to move; we'll have the money then and the time now to fix our credit, which has been totally shot.
The job possibilities didn't pan out. On top of that, I had a classic blunder move Thursday. I walked to a temp agency to meet with one of their reps. There was a gorgeous fountain on the front deck. I sat on the edge to look at the water and prep myself. Leaning over a little too far sent my cell phone right into the pool. Thinking it wasn't very deep, I rolled up my pant legs and went in after it. BAD MOVE!! The thing had a 45% slope down to waist-deep water. VERY COLD WATER! It took me about a minute or two to calm down enough to figure out how I was going to fish out my phone. I had it right between my feet, but couldn't reach it. Mind you, Queenie is afraid of water. Yeah. Not good. I finally had to dive to get it and lost my glasses and keys in the process. Those I fished up with my toes (go me!), then a nice older man in white clothes helped me out of the fountain. So, there I am, soaked from head to toe, shivering and I looked up at the sky, laughed and said "Thank you! I needed to be reminded of the absurd." The building management came out, hustled me indoors, and loaned me some towels and a jacket to wear back home. By now my cell phone is toast. I try to call Wolf, then decide not to ask him to come get me. I shiver my way to the bathroom, take off my top, dry off my torso and slide on the jacket. I decide to just walk home and get into dry clothes. My cell phone, after being dried and tested, to no avail, ends up sitting in the bathroom. *smacks forehead* By the time I get home, get changed and realize what I had done, I was about ready to cry. Instead I marched myself right back over to the building. Didn't find it, left Wolf's number in case someone turned it in, and marched myself home. It's been 4 days and still no call. Either someone kept it or someone tossed it. My number's been blocked, FYI, and Wolf and I agreed. I use his cell phone until we can get mine replaced and we don't talk to each other while he's at work. *sigh* I enjoyed those phone calls.
Anyway, tomorrow is my first adventure with the Denver public transport. I need to learn the bus system anyway and the temp agency downtown forgot some vital info. So, Kiddo and I are riding the bus tomorrow. I found enough money and there's a free link to get me partway there. Whoot! It'll take most of the day and I may use the 20 I have in my purse to treat us to lunch. The bank account is better then we thought. Sadly, we missed our chance to refil my birth control, so no boom-boom. Not that that matters much, we've hardly had the time and privacy to do so. Again, promises not kept. *grumble* Well, the mistake was made, now we just have to fix it.
And for the record, let me say that I love all you guys very much. Just wanted you to know. *HUGS*
