Welcome to the Real World Dinner

When: March 12, 2011, 6pm

Where: Number 5, Binghamton, NY

Cocktails before and after dinner, pay as you go.

Food and Wine, covered by me.

I've been running a rough estimate of costs and, well, those of you who can afford to pitch in, even if it's just $20, I will be everlastingly grateful. I'm not going to escape the "Pushing a Grand" range.

Here's who's RSVP'ed and the crash space they've claimed:

Eva, my bed
Joe P, couch
Meghan & Jim
Alex & Lady
Buddha, recliner & Kaaren, air bed on wheels
Barb
Giovanni & Isaac, IDK's mattress
Nick & Ducky
PhoenixMedusa, staying elsewhere
Craig & Tracy, staying elsewhere

Currently I have floor space in Cuteness' room and the attic. I believe I could fit one or two more people on the floor of my bedroom, and certainly one more in IDK's room, provided I can get it shoveled out.

Sildar, if you're bringing a queen air mattress, I'll have to stuff you into the attic, as I'm essentially limited to twin mattresses and/or sleeping bags for floor space anywhere else. Yes, this means YOU, MEGFAUN!!!!

Something I forgot to mention, this will be a dressy dinner. Number 5 is a 3 star place. I'm wearing black velvet. Please pack accordingly. I don't mind garb, as long as it's formal garb. Otherwise; business dress, something you would wear to a stuffy office party. Y'all know the drill. No, Bu, I do not require a tie, but I do require a dress shirt.

The ER doctor who admitted Wolf the night he died is one of our customers. He came in today for a battery issue and we talked while he waited.

He hadn't known that Wolf had died.

I asked him for more details about how strokes kill. With the advantage of hindsight, he suspects that everything started Tuesday, when Wolf went in for the vertigo and vomiting, and there was a cascade effect as more and more blood backed up in the brain. The reason we didn't get a MRI was because Binghamton General doesn't have one. Wolf would had to have been transported, and he wasn't stable for that. Clot-busting drugs absolutely, positively, cannot be given to patients with uncontrolled blood pressure, it can cause bleeding elsewhere.

I also learned that blood clots are impossible to spot on CT scans, only bleeding in the brain CAUSED by a clot. As there was no obvious bleeding, Dr. N theorized that it was one or more tiny clots.

In other words, there was nothing more I could have done, and any fault, if one chooses to assign fault, is with the ER doctor on Tuesday for not considering the possibility that a morbidly obese man with uncontrolled blood pressure could have a tiny clot in the midbrain causing his symptoms instead of an inner ear problem.

Does this help?

No, not really.
