This weekend was the Trip to Ithaca weekend for IDK drop off and porch assistance for Bu. We were ready to go a good half hour early, but Looooo didn't mind getting Cuteness early, so IDK and I were at Zahde's door about ten minutes before ten, which suited me just fine.

I got directions to Bu and found it easily enough. That was the ONLY time this weekend that I was driving alone and got to Bu's house without missing it/having to turn around. I did get to and from the hotel okay (lucky me, a guy came in Saturday night and was turned away due to full occupancy.) and when Bu was with me I was fine. (Ok, not really. I missed the house twice with Bu in the car.) But, yeah. Easy to miss Bu's house. Also easy to mistake a fork in the road when it's not the right fork. Nearly sideswiped a Uhaul trying to get back into the right lane. Whoo.

Anyhew, once there, I was put to work scraping paint off the porch railing. Some of it was easy and some of it was hard and some of it was GLUED to the DAMN WOOD. I spent about three hours on one section and only got half of that completely stripped with a mix of scraping and sanding. Bu, next time, just buy some bloody paint stripper!!!

I was then informed that I could not be that thorough or we'd never get done. I agreed and we trooped off to lunch at an Indian buffet. Food was lovely, tea was Lipton (boo hiss). For the record, chickpeas and cucumber-yogurt sauce makes a great dessert.

After lunch, I helped sand and scrape the rest of the porch railing and upper trim. I was about a half inch too tall, so I was doing belly dancing contortions to get to the inner parts of the trim. My tummy was nicely sore well before dinner time. Thankfully, Bu the supervisor said "Good enough!" and we started priming.

We got the priming done by about 6pm. I was beyond tired at this point AND had had an asthma attack, so Bu sent me off to the showers. I checked into my hotel, cheered at getting a first floor non smoking room, and jumped into the shower while the TV was on. I changed clothes, left my paint gear draped over chairs to air, and cooled my heels for about an hour before heading back. When I returned, everyone agreed on pizza and we headed out to a pizza buffet for dinner. Bu was stopped by an acquaintance at the pizza place, prompting me to put my hands on my hips and comment "You know EVERYONE in this town, don't you?". He had also been stopped in the Indian buffet.

I went back to my hotel room, did my routine, got comfy and watched the last third of Chronicles of Riddick on AMC. I was hoping they would repeat, since I've only seen the beginning ONCE, but instead AVP came on. While I do enjoy AVP, it was after 10 and I knew I'd be up about 7 am anyway. So I went to sleep.

Sure enough, 7 am, I was up. I found something interesting to watch on History Çhannel and cooled my heels until 8, then got dressed, packed up, checked out and off for breakfast at Gimme Coffee, only getting lost once. I tallied for about an hour there, then headed back to Bu's for today's painting. I painted porch, door, and roof windows until it was almost 2 pm and I was getting dizzy from heat and lack of food.

After some debate, Bu and I headed out for lunch and Labyrinth. Fine Line is a very nice bistro. Brunch prices were on the high side of reasonable for the quality of food (I have learned I love lox and cream cheese SO MUCH) and the super-cool Heaven/Hell bathrooms. As we left, I checked the weekend dinner prices and decided it would be a good Date Place. Considering they had two-three variations on mimosas, and the bartender was VERY generous, I suspect their wine list is well-stocked, which is also good for Date Places.

Bu then directed me to a grass Labyrinth near a stone circle that was buzzing. He said it was a cross point of ley lines, which explained a great deal. The Guardian Tree wasn't very talkative, but it did give me a hug.

As I walked the Labyrinth, I tried to keep my mind blank. About halfway through, I had "The journey I walk alone" running through my head as a mantra. I couldn't shake it. Once I got to the center, I bowed and sat down in the middle to meditate. Gaia spoke to me and I reminded myself that while I'm a widow, I'm not really alone. I have my kiddos and my family and my friends. Feeling a bit better, I thanked the Lady and headed back out. I was given gentle reminders that I AM strong, I CAN raise my children on my own, and I WILL be All Right as I paced. I also kept thinking the walk would be an excellent Initiation Ritual, but NO, I don't really need one, as I had initiated myself back in 2001 and I'm not following a specific degree system. But there is a bit of wistfulness there.

I took Bu home, again missing his house, and headed home, also mistaking a fork for being mine when it wasn't. Ah, good times.

I stopped at a gas station to get Gatorade, as I was badly dehydrated and it was depressing me. I also stopped at Iron Kettle Farm and picked up a jug of peach cider, some creamsicle fudge (SO YUMMY!!) and a wooden "You say I'm a WITCH like it's a bad thing!" plaque. I stuck that in the back of the car, up by the rear windshield, for the drive home. It's now on the bookcase. I'm not stupid enough to proclaim my faith that blatantly at work, TYVM.

I got back to Looo's, hung out for a little while, then collected Cuteness and we came home. The dishwasher is running, my work clothes are clean and need to be dried, and I'm lounging at my computer desk while Cuteness munches an apple and watches Blue's Clues. I'm going to finish off the bean and barley soup for dinner. Tomorrow I'm thinking ham and sweet potato hash.

Hopefully that will be the last work related phone call I get. OMG.
