Further Adventures!
Mar. 17th, 2013 12:02 pmI stayed up last night specifically to go play D&D with the guys. Cuteness is with Mama A again and IDK is old enough to sleep alone for a few hours. Whoot.
Our intrepid band of adventurers made it down to the second level of the dungeon. Multi-pass did his "see through walls" thing and scouted out a good section. There were several rooms occupied by a few different monsters, including pale half elves clinging to a 30' ceiling, more Wraiths, more Lichs, three Mind Flayers in an isolated room, and two humans in a cell.
"Let's go talk to the humans!" I said.
"Yeah, okay, sure." The rest of the group agreed. We walked to the cell and Bard-boy tried to read their minds.
"Hunger. Total, absolute hunger." DM
A ten minute discussion over how to approach this followed. I went right up to the door and addressed the men inside. One of them shifted into a beast and rushed the door. I promptly skipped back.
"Okay. They're...man beasts."
"I'm going to read their minds again!" Bard boy
"All you get is overwhelming hunger. They want meat." DM
"Should we offer them meat?" Me.
"You know, I'm cool with just leaving them alone." Berserker.
Bard boy spent another ten minutes debating if he could somehow trick them into following ham steaks down to the room with the Wraiths and save us the trouble. Much more discussion between the rest of the party and a final vote determined we would leave well enough alone and go check out the half elves in the vaulted room. So we did.
Multi-Pass scoped out the half elves further and discovered they were vampires.
"Man, if only one of us had a Summon Monster spell!" Bard Boy
"Here. Use this." Me, pulling my scroll of Summon Monster 8 out of my Awesome Backpack of Holding.
"Where did you get that?!" Bard Boy
"We found them in the last battle." Me.
"Oh yeah, Berserker and I have one too. Okay. I'll use my scroll. What shall we summon?" Multi-Pass
Another five minute discussion and consultation later, Multi-Pass summons a level 8 Fire Elemental directly into the room as a surprise attack. The rest of us boost our defenses and I broke out my Magic Missile Wand, also found in the last session.
"The two vampires hiss like crazy." DM
Bard Boy controlled the fire elemental for the battle. One of the vampires dropped to the floor, leaving a shadow. The second vampire dropped behind the first, fell through the shadow and popped up behind Bard Boy.
Yes. We had found two Shadow Dancing Monk Vampires. Berserker and I were at a different door, a good 200 feet away from Bard Boy and Multi-Pass thanks to twisty hallways. I had my ear against the door listening to the battle inside. Berserker suggested we try and Listen to the rest of our party. I made my Listen roll and heard Bard Boy duking it out against the SDMV.
"I'm on it!" Berserker promptly left. I stayed by the door, not wanting to open it until the fire elemental either won or was destroyed. Multi-pass threw the SDMV back into the main room since he didn't have the reach to toss it into the room with the Mind Flayers.
"I read their minds!" Bard Boy.
"They have no idea what's going on. They were already upset about being locked in this dungeon and the a freaking fire elemental showed up trying to kill them and there's two other guys trying to kill them and they're confused and angry and going 'Oh god, why me?'" DM
I spent another round Listening. I now knew that Bard Boy and Multi Pass were okay and Berserker was almost to them. The SDMVs went more rounds with the fire elemental.
I decided to catch up with everyone else, so I flew. Yay flight spell! It took me two turns to get there, during which the fire elemental was being whittled down by two SDMVs, who took minor damage.
"I cut down the door!" Bard Boy.
"Okay, the door is now rubble."
"I drink a Protection Against Elements potion and go in." Bard Boy.
Another round of SDMV versus Fire Elemental. The Elemental is dying.
"Berserker! Give me a will save!" DM.
"Uh, I got a 13."
"You are now Dominated! You receive a clear mental command. Kill the Fire Elemental." DM.
"Now I'm glad I didn't cast that boost." Multi-Pass
"This is bad, right?" Me, having just arrived.
"I change my song and use Hold Person to control Berserker. He now cannot move." Bard Boy.
Another round of SDMV versus Fire Elemental. The Elemental has one round left.
"I roll a fireball at the closest vampire." Multi-Pass.
"It takes minor damage." DM.
"I fly in and get close to the ceiling. 'You...you monsters who cling to ceilings and take over friends, taste my wand of justice! Magic Missile!" Me. It was not my best speech.
Another round of SDMV versus Fire Elemental. The Elemental winks out like a snuffed candle flame.
"Berserker! I change my song and Fascinate you. Give me a Will roll!" Bard Boy
"Uh, I got a 15."
"You now think it is in the best interest of your life and health and all that to kill the vampires."
"Yay!" Berserker swings with her hammer and the first SDMV explodes into a cloud. Oh yes. Berserker is female. Did you know that? I didn't know that and the rest of the party had forgotten.
"He's not dead yet!" DM
"Hey Cat-girl! You have Gust of Wind, right? How about Solid Fog?" Bard Boy
"I've got both!" Me. I used Gust of Wind to scatter the vaporized vampire into a far corner of the room. The last SDMV tries to Dominate Berserker again and fails.
"I hit the last vampire!" Berserker runs over and swings her hammer. Four strikes later, the vampire not only explodes, the dust vaporizes.
We search the room and get four Keen commas, a Frost Sling with Adamantium bullets, two Rings of Protection +1 and 200 platinum that I divided between the group. I took the Frost Sling, the bullets and one ring. Berserker took the second ring.
"Dude. Those were CR 15 Shadow Dancing Monk Vampires. The werewolves would have been easier." DM
"The only reason we made it was because of the Fire Elemental." Multi-Pass "I'm taking Summon Monster 6 when I level up."
"I should probably look into that myself." Me.
Now it was 2:30 in the morning. We came home and crashed and I got up about 30 minutes ago. We still have to eat breakfast and paint Cuteness' room and SNB is going to play his game with his buddies sometime after that.
Good times.
