It is a good fairy tale. I guess I'm a bit too purist, I'm disappointed when a kung fu story brings in a white boy to teach a basic lesson of philosophy. They didn't NEED Hero-boy, any modern Chinese teenager would have filled the role without it feeling like pandering to the West.
This is one of the main reasons I love "Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon" so much. There were no foreigners, the kung fu was teh awesome, and the female leads were central to the story instead of being simple love interests.
