My 3rd ed GM (also my BF) gave us 8 "base" points in each ability, and then a "pool" of points to arrange as we liked.
I've only played one game with Leah the pyro-mage sorceress, but man do I like how she turned out.
Through some goblins around. They're always cannon fodder.

Sorry, as the player of a 5th level Goblin thief (who was the highet level character in the party for a while) I felt I had to make a comment on that remark. ^_^
