Ah well.
So! Saturday in the woods with Doc and Drake. Heeheehee. Doc and Drake. That's funny.
I'm STILL having wonky dreams at night. Now know why, but geez!
Ok, in all seriousness.
The guys picked me up about 1040. I took a Gatorade bottle of ice and my willow staff. Both proved very, very useful on this trip. Doc brought Tang and lots of bottled water, Drake knew where we were going and slept on the way up. We headed out of town and up into the mountains, well over an hour drive. Poor Doc was doing 55 for quie a while on the highway. We found the trail head after a very twisty drive up and down the side of a mountain and several snarky comments about rich people. Parked in the only available spot, gathered up all our gear and headed out. Not 50 feet into the trail we found a campsite. *twitch* The people were very friendly and we waved. Once out of earshot complaints about how many people were out today started. I kept behind the guys, feeling all 17 and amused.
After a few minutes of searching for no people, we found a good rock formation and made ourselves comfy. Drake and I made Tang while Doc measured. I got one plus a bit, Drake had one and Doc, I think, had one and a half. Very yummy, tasted like dried white button with a pleasant crispness. After consumption, we packed up everything and headed back down and onto the trail. The guys pointed out a waterfall, I couldn't see it. *shrug* I kept a careful note of the time consumption was complete, 1210, and we all strolled along and wondered when everything was going to kick in. Drake was hit first and hit HARD. We had hiked for about twenty minutes. Doc was next and I was last feeling the first effects. Thankfully, I didn't get too nauseous. Dry mouth, yeah. We found a tree with writing carved on it, mostly letters but I swear I saw one or two runes on it. Getting the very strong impression I should go no further, I suggested we go across the way where there were some rocks and dead trees to sit on. By now it's about 1240. Drake proceeded to use trees for balance while Doc and I sat on a rock. I started coughing, like I had a serious cold or something. Figuring it was the shade, I decided to move to a big patch of sunlight. I also had to hold my head up for a while. *grin*
Moving to the sun felt much better. I literally fell into "Queenie" mode. I was the Queen of that little patch of forest and quite pleased. Everything the light touched in that area was MINE and it had been captured in a beautiful digital photograph and I had merged with that photograph like I always wanted to. Rock on! The guys moved behind me up the slope a little ways. I could hear them, but it was muted, much like the creek. Turning to find them, it took a minute. For some reason they blended in really well. I looked at the really big dead tree directly behind me, crumbling from dry rot and the wood began sliding and morphing into a face. I pointed at it and said, "No. You're dead. Dead things do not move. Stop it." It did! I nodded satisfactorily and turned back to face the trail, muttering to myself what a good piece of dead wood it was to obey me. The guys had heard me and Drake came over to see if I was ok. He tried to balance on a dead tree that spanned the area we were in. I told him quite calmly that wasn't a good idea. He listened for a bit, then tried it anyway and ended up crashing right into me. Nearly knocked me off my stump throne. Thankfully, I had my staff to block him a little and didn't actually fall off, just slid a little. He apologized, I reassured him and Doc rejoined us to make sure we were both ok.
Right about here is where I was getting sleepy, so I leaned my head against my staff and closed my eyes. Orange morphed to red in a slow effect, while circle filled squares whirled happily and changed into a blocky face. I grinned, heard the guys talking and forced my eyes open.
It was like snapping awake from a dream. I looked around and realized just how sharp and green and pretty everything around me was. Doc and Drake had moved back to the rock. I forced myself up, ducked under the dividing tree, and moved to stand next to them, leaning on my staff. Doc was saying how he couldn't remember what reality and "normal" was. I assured him this WAS reality and when we went back, it would be rather dull. Drake waxed philosophical (he did that a lot) and Doc got paranoid about people walking by. Sure enough, a lady with a dog passed. I knew she was looking for something, so I asked her about it. She said she was looking for a dog named Brittney, brown and white. "Haven't seen her." I said pleasantly. "Well, let me know if you do." The lady said. "Absolutely." I promised. She left, I turned back to the guys.
"I have no idea how I did that." I announced.
"Neither do we." They said, looking at me funny. Doc worried some more about looking normal. "We look like a bunch of teenagers just hanging out in the sun, relaxing from a hike." I assured him. "Besides, you're the one who kept saying people will see what they want." He acknowledged that.
About here is where my open eyed visuals kicked in. I had sat down on a small stone, Drake was lying at my feet and Doc had stretched out on the big rock. Behind and to the left was a triangle formation of saplings all outlined in blue and looking just like those three dimensional pictures you see when you look through the red toy that has a circle of stills set in paper you put in and change with a lever. Magic View or whatever it's called. I could see the individual layers that forced the depth perception. Very cool. I looked at my phone to check the time and saw it was about 1350. The realization we had only been tripping for about an hour and had three hours to go was a pleasant shock.
I got sleepy again, slid off my rock into the dirt, curled up in a ball and closed my eyes again. Tuning out Doc and Drake talking about...something, I focused on the pretty orangy-red stuff behind my eyelids. I was turned away from the sun, but the colors were the same. I thought to myself it was like looking at the inside of an egg in development. Suddenly I realized I WAS inside an egg, a huge egg, hanging in space just watching all of these cells divide and form tiny fetus faces; blue eyelumps, faint noses and chins, tiny mouths. The one I focused on had feminine feelings and hints of long hair. I wondered if I was watching my daughter develop and thinking how very cool this was, hanging out in the Cosmic Egg, all safe and warm and peaceful.
I have no idea how long I was in there. If I cracked my eyelids a little, I could see the edge of the shell, glimmering white. Finally the guys' voices broke through again and I opened my eyes with a sigh. Drake had moved down the faint path a little, still stretched out on the ground, and Doc was sitting up. I finally put my staff down, the only solid object I had clung to, and rejoined the conversation. We all agreed we should have brought a tape recorder. Like we were really saying anything profound. I tried to call Wolf, but got his voicemail. This was after I looked over at the triangle formation and saw the truth. Three saplings, no blue and a LOT closer then I thought it was.
By now it was well after two, going on three. We all felt like we were coming down, then something would happen and we'd realize, Nope! I finally gave in to the impulse and stretched out on the path, hand cradling my head and watching the dragon-clouds in the sky. All three of us saw those. *beams* We also agreed it was nicer having two people together in the same state. We weren't as...joined as we had been when we peaked. Individualtiy had returned and we were using names again. For a while there, though, we were just three facets of the Universe, hanging out together in human form.
It was after three when Drake wandered off across the creek and down the trail. Doc and I let him go for about five minutes, then packed up everything and headed after him. It took a few minutes to find him, but we were feeling much more "normal". We followed the trail a bit further, greeted another dog that came by, then Doc realized he had a voicemail from Shaun, the fourth of our party who didn't make it. Once we figured out he was coming to the trail, we quickly headed back. Took a break to eat an orange, headed back out after a while. Doc was still coming down and it was fun to mess with his head a little. Drake and I recognized where we were, so we led Doc out. Passing by the campsite on the other side, the occupants were surprised we were out there so long.
"A really long walk." I said, fighting a smile.
"Did you have fun?"
"Oh yeah. Great trip." Doc and Drake said. I kept my laughter to myself and a parting comment about hippies was heard. At least, we think it was about hippies. It was hard to hear. We made our way out, found the car and sat to wait for Doc to clear out enough to drive. While waiting, Shaun showed up with the Egg Mcmuffins he had bought that morning. *twitch* The guys chowed down, I took the hash browns. Shaun also broke out a small pizza, which Drake took. I settled for Tang and pistachios. It took about another hour for Doc to feel well enough to drive. He and I teamed up, Drake went with Shaun and we decided to hit Chili's. After much driving, lots of confusion and about 30 minutes spent ogling the teenage girls all decked out for Homecoming, we got in and had a fine dinner. I decided on a margarita, mostly out of curiosity, and regretted it after consuming a quarter of the drink. Not sure how much was the alcohol and how much was the traces in my system, but when I started having spatial differations in a big way, I knew it was enough.
Got home about 2030 with leftovers, which I gave to Wolf. Relaxed on him for the rest of the evening, watched Dogma and went to bed.
