Those of you who have seen Slayers might get a kick out of this.

Take Lina and Gourry, k?

Lina: Strip her of all her magic, cut her hair, make her about 6 inches and 3 cup sizes bigger, keep her personality but increase her tendency to scream and babble and lower her IQ about, oh, 10 points. Increase her obsessive nature by the IQ difference.

Gourry: Make him a vampire, with an actual brain and backbone, all the goody vampiric powers plus two elemental servant-children, fire and ice, boy and girl, respectively. Give him the same protective instincts and combine them with a blood-bond, so that in order to access all his snifty powers, he has to drink from Lina.

Give the elementals Zelgadis' personality.

Drop the whole kit and kaboodle on Earth, 1920s, throw in strange pyramids, another vampire, something called Star Lords and what do you get?

Have had very interesting Hellsing tangents because of it.
