Who cares if it's 5 am? Can't breathe? Get up and post! In about fifteen minutes, the sinuses will be cooperative again and I'll be able to sleep without mouth-breathing.

Gods I hate mouth-breathing.

So! Update, of sorts.

Got my WIC checks. Whoot! WIC is one of the best programs, even with the restrictions. I get to shop at Wegmans! *does happy Wegmans dance* For my Westerly friends, Wegmans is like Whole Foods. Upscale, HUGE, filled with all kinds of food goodness and yeah, about as expensive as Whole Foods too. Bah. Only place I've seen where food prices are comparable to CO. Can you believe we can get whole milk, by the gallon, mind you, and in local grocery stores, for less then $3.00? It's amazing and it tastes sooo much better!

Anyhew, nutritionist at WIC looked over my 'eating chart', that pink form they insist everyone fills out so they know how much of everything you're eating daily and weekly. Yes, yes, not bad, but you're low on protein and vegetables and oh, yes, you shouldn't be drinking whole milk because of the milk fat content. See theese little clear plastic cups with glue in them? That's how much fat you're drinking, no good. Clogs your arteries, no matter how small you are. We'll let you have 2 %, but we'd prefer it if you got down to 1 %. Yes, it does help you gain weight, but it's bad for you. Eat more protein, that will help you gain better weight.

*gag* White water, that's what 1 % is. Even out here. And do you know why I gained two pounds in a week and a half? Pudding! Swiss Miss pudding made with real cream!

Well, that and making sure I eat whenever I get hungry, listening to the cravings and following through on them, which results in me eating about five times a day. Yes, yes, that's good, make it six times a day. Three meals and three snacks, and maybe try drinking some of those Carnation Instant breakfasts AFTER your meal. Not before, or you'll feel full. And no, not Ensure. Carnation.

Wolf and I agreed the WIC lady, who was a very nice Taiwanese whom we surprised more then once with our admissions of liking Aisan foods, was simply following FDA regs because, well, that's her job. One size fits all diet plan based on latest research. *snort* I'm planning on talking to the nutritionist on the 23rd and seeing if that one, the OBGYN-approved one, will try for something more personalized for me and my requirements or not. Because the last time a medical professional wanted me to gain, it was Ensure Plus and ice cream. Granted, that was seven years ago and they were trying to put the weight on me fast. But you know what? It worked better then anything else.

Speaking of cravings, I want some juice.

*wanders off*

I will never understand the nutritionist obsession with not drinking whole milk. The difference in saturated fat between a glass of whole milk and a glass of 1%? 3 grams. Oh noes!!!111!!! Seriously, even if you drink three glasses a day, that's under 100 calories of difference. Nobody ever died from 9 grams of saturated fat. You NEED fat to live. Fat keeps you healthy and warm and sated. And the absolute last thing you should be worrying about if you're skinny and pregnant is three fucking grams of fat. Especially if it means you'll drink more milk because you like the taste better. (See: all the recent studies showing how awesome dairy is for you.) Good lord.

(And it goes the other way too -- when the football coach was trying to fatten up my toothpick little brother, he told my mom to get whole milk instead of skim. So if he drinks 53 glasses, he'll gain one pound! *headdesk* Yeah, THAT'S what'll do the trick.)

The nutritionist is right that you do need to concentrate on weight gain from extra protein rather than extra fat, because that'll help increase your lean body mass, which is good good good. But pregnancy is not the time to start obsessing about low fat, especially if you're actively trying to GAIN weight. Keep your level of dietary fat the same and then add protein on top of that, would be the way to go, I'd think.

Sorry, rant over. Maybe I should just become a nutritionist already. :P

*chuckle* I agree with you, Inspy. _I_'m not going to worry over grams of fat right now. Time enough for that when I'm actually over 30. I'm only 27.

I'm thinking of picking up some whey protein powder and adding it to my juice and milk. Because for some strange, disorder-related reason, it's easier for me to DRINK protein then it is to eat it.
