Yesterday I got a letter from a lawyer.

The lawyer in question works with the Child Support Enforcement in Colorado.

It's a Response to Request to Modify Child Support.

Guess who filed the request.

According to this response, the ex may be voluntarily underemployed. Gee, ya THINK???

The final numbered item stated that he did not send a copy to me, nor was there any indication of where he might have mailed a copy to, that there wasn't a relationship between this law office and me, and the request was unsigned.

Now, when one is filing legal documents to get out of something, wouldn't it make sense to make sure you do EVERYTHING needed to ensure your request goes through in your favor? Like, say, SIGNING IT???

*shakes head* The request was filed on the fifth, which was when his wages were first garnished.

I called the office and left a message asking them to call me back and tell me how to respond to this response. From the tone of the letter, they aren't going to do anything because he didn't follow procedure. This is the same reason he got slapped with as much child support in the first place. Never, ever tick off a divorce court judge by not following their orders.

In other news, I spent yesterday on the couch sick. Half the household came down with some kind of stomach bug/possible food poisoning. I'm waiting to see if the toast stays down before I do much more physical activity. It may have been YEARS, but vomiting is still as awful as I remember.

that sounds like Kai's step-"father", who broke his terms of immigration by separating from his mom (He's supposed to be happily married for two years before he can get citizenship), and then filed his tax returns as "Single"...

Yeah, you can do that. Tax laws are slippery that way.

The year I divorced the ex, I filed as 'head of household', which was ok because I had spent the requiste amount of time separated. Yes, I was living with family for those six months, but I was taking care of my own household, Markl and myself.

Yeah, except, the IRS caught sight of the paperwork and they're having him deported. :P
