Or, "How Queenie now TOTALLY sympathizes with flood victims"

So I got into work ok, no big issues.

By 10 am, we get a call from one of the storage units in West Corners, roughly 2 miles away. "Hey, you might want to come down here."

By 11 am it's OMFGEMERGENCY!!!! as everyone scrambles to rescue said stored cars. While I'm trying to stage batteries, I get a call from our main supplier's driver "Hey, the road down here by the Wies is flooded."

"Go back and be safe." I inform him. Now I'm starting to fret, as that's my WAY HOME, but after everyone's back and The Boss is dithering over what to do, I figure out an alternate route home.

By 12 pm, the neighbor across the street is losing his firewood to the rain and it's starting to drift towards our lot, which is getting noticeably full of water.

By 12:30 (roughly) 26 N is closed not TWENTY FEET from our lot. So much for my alternate route. Now I'm getting scared.

As half the work force left around 11:30 to take care of their flooded houses, and a call to Mama A assures me my neighborhood is fine and IDK will be picked up from his early dismissal, I am pressed into service to move sale cars. Ducky.

By 2:00, the four workers and The Boss (who had finally decided where he can stash his inventory, up the street and around the corner, on the only route left OUT of the area) have moved all the inventory. I had already moved my car once, as the lot was officially flooded. (Ankle-to-shin deep water and CURRENT) I had also already grabbed all the sale car folders, all the DMV paperwork, all the Platinum record books AND my notary public stuff and stashed them in get away cars. I declared I was LEAVING and everyone else said OK. (I had tried to leave around 12 and had been snarked into staying by Shop Boss, plus everyone else was giving me dirty looks and I didn't want to deal with the bullshit. This was also right before 26 N closed, so yeah.)

I had been given directions to avoid the southern washout of 26, and I followed them correctly. Until I got to Day Hollow and there was a big "Road Closed" sign. So I backtracked and went back over the hill instead of straight up Day Hollow. Which put me back on 26, north of where the road was closed. So it was BACK over the hill to Day Hollow and turn right instead of left. Which was what I had done in the first place. Spotting a familiar mail box, I took the next right to go over a different hill.

This put me well west of my intended location, and while I saw the signs for Day Hollow, I didn't bother because, well, it was closed. I finally end up at the intersection of two hills and there's a volunteer fireman directing traffic.

"Hi, I'm lost!" I say when it's my turn.

"Where do you need to go?" He asks.

"South side of Binghamton."

"Oh honey, you are so lost."

"I know. How can I get to 17C from here?"

"17C is closed."

"Ducky! How do I get to Binghamton then?"

"Go down this road to a 4way intersection, look for the guy in a green raincoat. Turn right and that will take you to Owego and you can pick up 17."

"Sounds like a plan!"

So I follow these directions and end up by Lockheed Martin, which is where I've taken customers to before. By now it's after 3 pm. I had left around 2:15-2:20. I call Mama A, finally, and let her know I'm okay and heading home the LOOOOONG way. I get into Owego, head for the 17 junction, and spot the 434 junction.

Hey! If I get on 434, I'm on the right side of the river and I can take it all the way to Vestal Ave! Score!

Just before 4 pm I pull into my driveway. I'm soaked from the shins down, as my car would fog within 15 seconds of the heater activating. I can feel my chest reacting to the chilled feet.

Mama A, bless her heart, had already been flooded out. She had called me about 10 am that her road was starting to flood and I told her to get the Cuteness and GET OUT NOW. She had gone to Looos, then came to my house to pick up IDK. She left about half an hour ago to stay with Drya, who had already gone in and rescued Jet Black, her dog, and her CPAP so she could sleep.

I, after telling my story and giving/receiving lots of hugs for making it home safe, hopped into the shower to warm up. Cuteness barged in, so I cleaned her up too. We are in our jammies. IDK is playing Okami on the PS2, as it entertains both my children quite well. I am drinking ginger-echenacia tea (sp? *shrug*) to further stall any sickness that might be trying to creep into my chest.

I fully expect the shop to be flooded by tomorrow morning, if not tonight. What this means for the business and my job, I don't know.

Cars are insured only to a point. I'm glad to be home.

I meant the dealer's cars. I am glad you went home versus getting your car totaled trying to help the boss.

I was wondering how you were weathering the flood. Now I know. I'm glad you are safe.

Since my parents are on top of a very tall hill they are fine and staying put.
