But today is worthy of...

So yesterday Loooo called and said "Hey, we're doing our normal family thing for the 4th! What do you want to do?" and I said "Hmm. How about pie? I can hit the farmer markets and see what fresh berries are available." and she said "Cool! I'll come with and we can bake at my house!"

Never one to turn down an offer of using an oven that's not mine, I met up with her this morning after dropping off the kiddos. We took our time enjoying coffee, as the markets don't open until 10 am. We went to Lone Maple first and picked up cherries, blueberries and two bottles of wine, strawberry for her and a chardonnay I hadn't seen before for me. Then we went to Nezuntoez (spelled without appropriate punctuation) for coffee and a snack. She really liked the place, I'm hoping we can go again for another leisurely time. Two customers spotted me and I got to tell them I was "let go" and asked that they not let my disappearance affect their choice of car service providers. I was called "so sweet" for that. (^_^)

The second stop was at Montrose Produce. We got more blueberries, more cherries and peaches. It was also decided that we were going to make crust from scratch!

Once we were back at her place, she prepped fruit while I prepped dough. The blueberries got overcooked due to us doing other things and we had to get MORE blueberries so we would have pie filling and not syrup-studded-with-occasional-fruit. The cherries also cooked down more then expected, so we had about two-three cups of syrupy fruit left after the deep dish pies were filled. The peaches were not pre-cooked, and we had about a half cup of filling left, which was happily eaten.

I had a few suggestions for the leftover berry mix, which I had combined into one pot. I was willing to take it home and continue reducing until I had a good ice cream topper, or we could blend it with wine or vodka or rum and some ice. The drink mix was voted for, so I left it all there. I think I'll take that chardonnay with me tomorrow.

And in other news, The Former Boss called a few minutes ago. He really, really needs to learn that I am NOT his employee anymore and any questions he has should either be emailed or called for by SOMEONE ELSE during normal business hours. After 5 pm on the night before a holiday!! *rolls eyes* I'm SO GLAD I'm not there anymore!
