This has been a lovely weekend, even with missing documentation and navigational woes. (for the record, historic Annapolis is NOT Google Map friendly. There are too many one way streets and about two roundabouts too many)

SNB and I got on the road a little later then planned, due to missing documentation, but we were on I-81 by 8:40 am, so we were pleased. SNB took the first half of the drive through PA. He asked me questions about Sildar and Ducky and I had to keep telling him "I don't know!" I've know Sil for about 8 years, but we never talked about families, occasionally about work and mostly about Freelance Keep, which took up 5 of those 8 years. Sil came up the December after Wolf died to spend a weekend and help me install my flat screen television, the family Christmas gift. We considered each other good friends, but that was our first face to face meeting. I met Ducky at my Welcome to the Real World dinner the following March.

We got into Annapolis a little after 2, and this was after a 40 minute stop at the I-83 diner outside of Harrisburg, PA. Good food, they had SCRAPPLE!, a really nice waitress and a lovely clean bathroom. I took over the driving after lunch, which meant I got all the fun exchanges through MD.

We made it to the historic section of Annapolis and promptly got lost. Thank you one way streets and roundabouts! We ended up driving past the Naval Academy entrance and over a bridge before I pulled over to look at the map again. Poor SNB was trying to direct me, but when I asked to see the map he got upset. It turned out I had missed a roundabout exit, so we went back over the bridge and to the roundabout and finally got to the hotel about 2:30ish.

It turned out that the Governor Calvert hotel is part of a "Historic Inns of Annapolis" complex that spans two roundabouts, several one way streets and three main buildings. The ceremony and reception were at Governor Calvert, our hotel room was in the Maryland Inn a 5 minute walk or a 10 minute roundabout laden drive. Valet parking was available and after the navigation kerfuffle, I was more then happy to pay a fee to have someone else drive us around. We got a gift bag when we checked in, awww. The valet driver had ME drive to the Maryland Inn, made sure we knew how to get back and helped unload our luggage.

The Maryland Inn is one of those funny triangular buildings. Our room was on the fourth floor (top) and it was a corner room. Sweet. There was a flat screen television bigger then mine, a tiny bathroom with a shower and a four poster bed.

Let me repeat that.

A FOUR POSTER BED.

A HIGH four poster bed, the kind you almost need steps to get into, piled with about 8 pillows. There was no coffee service in the room, that was provided in the morning in the lobby. (In silver urns, dontcha know) The bathroom had those nifty New England horizontal white shutters and looked out over the Chesapeake. I stood there for a few minutes admiring the view. I have now seen a slip of the Atlantic Ocean, very far away where I like it to be. Except for the drive over the wharf, the water was far away and hard to see, which made me happy.

We got into the room a little before 3, changed, and were ready to go by 3:30. We stayed in our room until about 3:40.

The walk back to G.C. was chilly. I don't like hose or stockings, so I was bare-legged for this shindig and grateful for my wool coat. We found where people were hanging out, where the guest book was (more like a "guest stack of paper", I addressed my note to Sildar and Ducky and one of my (^_^) faces for the giggle factor), and where the reception would be.

Sil and Ducky had gone with exotic sport cars for table settings. We were at the Lotus table. There was also a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, a Mclaren (Mercedes), Porsche and I think there was a Bugatti too. I found it cute and clever and was proud of the fact I knew these thanks to "Top Gear". We found the coat check and hung ours up and proceeded to wander around. I started talking to a very nice woman named Ju and she informed us the wedding was going to be outside.

...

Outside. In the 20something temperature.

"Right!" says I and I go get my coat.

More later. SNB is home and I'm ridiculously tired.

I was curious what her dress was like (as in retro or not).

How did you do.
