Tonight Xaneth the LE Favored Soul watched her party return from random killing. She's sitting near the door to the Underdark, smoking her pipe and chillin' with her Ogre Mage Zombie and her Drider Zombie.
Yes. That's right. A DRIDER ZOMBIE.
A new character arrives, as the monk has bailed. It's a spell thief. We roll a Listen check at DM's insistence. Two of us hear rustling.
Xaneth: There's something coming!
The Jack of All Trades lights a torch and tosses it. It lands within 20 feet of Xaneth and reveals six discombobulated Drow, five males and a female. We get a surprise attack round and I manage to cast Hold Person on the female. My Ogre Mage takes to the air and the Drider uses its bow to little avail. The Drow go after the large flying Thing and knock it down to about 10 hit points. One Drow is five feet to the left and 30 feet below my Ogre Mage.
Me: So what's the Reflex save if I make my Mage fall on that Drow?
GM: Uh...17. *rolls* DAMNIT!
Me: SMASH! I get crushing damage!
GM: *looking on phone* How high was he?
Me: 30 feet!
GM: Roll 4 d8 of damage.
Me: Woot!
The fight progresses. The female shakes off my spell and advances on the melee fighters, nearly taking out our Half Ogre. I summon Fiendish Monstrous Scorpions to flank as I can. My Drider continues to shoot and misses most of the time. Our Jack of All Trades makes at least one hit every time. The Spell Thief steals a spell and a buff from the female, which finally knocks her out of the game. The Drow pinned under my Mage suffers a slow crushing death as I continue to roll 2 d8 of damage every turn he doesn't escape. I make it a point to demand crushing damage every turn. After the female is killed the remaining three Drow turn tail and run. My scorpions kill one and take chunks out of a second. The third gets away clean. We all level up. I reanimate my Ogre Mage and pet him, telling him what a good zombie he is. I get a mastercraft hand crossbow and a cloak of +1 resistance.
Good times.
