Ursula of KUEC, Hugo Award Winning Digger and all around awesome artist/author/decent human being mentioned once in KUEC of her Decor Theory. This theory states that children imprint their Decor Style (how they want to decorate their living spaces) between the ages of 7-9. Urusla was in Arizona at the time and firmly believes skulls are necessary accessories.

I was in CO, my parents may or may not have replaced the ugly orange and black plaid living room set with all the wood I had to dust once a week, and I was reading Little House on the Prairie, The Little Princess and The Secret Garden.

My decor DEFINITELY runs towards floral patterns (but not toile. Oh gods, not toile. *shudder*), soft colors (not pastels. Oh gods, not pastels *shudder*) and "Good to Snuggle Up In". The Element Themed House seems to have died with Wolf, although I clung to it for the last three years. Fortunately, cheerful yellow fits BOTH schemes.

This is the good I'm getting out of these silly wish fulfillment grieving stories. I'm ignoring all the voices inside my head EXCEPT True Blue and Aurora.

One of these days I will be able to afford the $7k custom made canopy bed made of intertwined saplings. And I will get it in rosewood finish, because silver makes it Snow Queen territory and unlike Elsa, the cold bothers me TREMENDOUSLY.

Hmmm. My decor tends to run to Small House Practical. Our house is only 902 square feet, so I've stuck with the eggshell white paint that was here when I moved in. It needs to be repainted, but that project will wait until I retire.
The bedroom's ceiling is knotty pine in a natural finish, and the kitchen cabinets are light-colored wood. Our storage shelves and pantry racks in the kitchen are light-colored wood as well, and the floor is, too.
Most of the background items are neutrals. The accent pieces (the towels, rug, shower curtain, etc. in the bathroom, the towels, pot holders, etc. in the kitchen) are dark or bright, depending. When I want to change the look, I just change the easy, cheap stuff.
My living room is a work in progress. The carpet is coming out and we will have laminate flooring eventually. The couch is my only indulgence of what little girly sentiment I have - it's a floral print that I fell in love with when the owner brought it to my mom's antique shop as a trade-in. Mom bought it for me when she saw how much I liked it.
Our artwork on the walls is all Maxfield Parrish. I have collected his work for the last twenty-five or so years, and Craig is a fan as well. We have a dozen or so between us, though right now not all are hanging because there is stuff in the way.
Mostly I need a month off to de-clutter.

Decluttering is very useful, you might find something Very Interesting.

I've been good about keeping the clutter to a minimum. The kiddos' rooms are disasters, but it's THEIR space. As long as the public rooms and my room is picked up, I'm OK.

The next few years will be spent repairing this house, then I will start saving for Earthship.

Heh. Whenever I de-clutter I always find interesting things. Mostly our problem is not enough damn time.
This house is (unless I win the lottery) my end house. The mortgage is paid. I am less than four years (gods willing!) from retirement, and I'm not interested in taking on another mortgage. Is it my dream house? No, but now that it's paid off, I can make some changes in that direction. If I had unlimited funds, I would have a Darmstadt house with a grey-water holding tank and all the green features. But I don't, so what I have to do is tweak what we have.

And I have not forgotten that I need to send you the cloak. I've just been insanely busy. I will try to send it out on Thursday or Friday 12/4 or 12/5 because I am off those days.
