Phone problems.

We've been having calls suddenly drop for about the last 30 minutes. It's a Quest issue, they're fixing it. *snicker* This is why Wolf and I went exclusively cellular. We dun trust Quest.
Since I now have the time...
I'm waking up. Damn. Grudgingly, I open my eyes. Rae's head is inches away and he's still asleep. I blink a few times, wondering why we're sharing a bed. Pain leaps out of nowhere and lands solidly on my ribcage, happily munching away at my nerves. Ah yes. The attack. I sigh, then wince. Ok, no deep breathing for me for a while. Rae's even cuter when he's asleep, despite the hefty bruise on his left cheek. I notice his left arm is carefully draped over my waist. Grinning, I reach up and gently stroke his nose. It twitches like a rabbit. I chuckle to myself and stroke it again. Rae's eyes pop open. He stares at me, then gives me a half-smile.
"Good morning, Cherie."
"Good morning. Does this mean we should skip the french fries and milkshakes?" Rae's brow furrows, then he bursts out laughing. Almost immediately, he stops and gingerly fingers his jaw.
"Don't do that to me, love." My entire body freezes. Heart, lungs, muscles, everything except my basic brain functions.
"Wh...what did you call me?" I choke out the words. Rae's dark gray eyes roam over my face. He took out the contacts. He smiles slightly and leans forward. Just then the nurse walks in.
"Good morning!" Rae mouths a curse and pulls back. I start breathing again and my heart kicks over. DAMN! I tune out the chatter of the overly-perky nurse and sit quietly as she checks my vitals. She thrusts a menu into my hands.
"Choose what you want for breakfast, you've got about an hour. And the police are here to take your statements. Once that's done and the doctor looks you over, you should be cleared to go." She says cheerfully. I decide on oatmeal, cold cereal and a muffin. The nurse skips off. I glance at Rae.
"Just when did you climb in next to me?"
"About an hour ago, love." He slips out of the bed and pads over to his chair. I gape at him. That's TWICE!
The police and the food arrive together. I give the oatmeal to Rae. We give our statements and descriptions of the goons in between bites.
"Do you want to press charges?" The female seargant asks. Rae and I look at each other.
"Absolutely." Rae says coldly. I nod.
"Punk needs to learn." I add, popping a bite of muffin into my mouth. The seargant nods.
"Your parents have already filed, I'll add yours. Jumping people at an anime con. I'm surprised we don't have more reports when these things are in town." I raise my eyebrow at that. The police finish up with handshakes and quit the room. We get about five minutes to eat before the doc shows. By now I am sick of the interruptions. Rae called me 'love', I want to know if he meant it!
The doctor spends a ridiculous amount of time poking and prodding me before declaring I can be released. He lectures us both on post-trauma care and leaves to find our folks. Miss Perky comes back with our clothes and a bunch of paperwork.
"I hope the insurance covers assault." I grumble, signing away.
"If it doesn't, I have an uncle who's a lawyer. He'll make them pay." Rae assures me. I grin at him, sign and inital the last form, then slide slowly off the bed. "Where are you going?" He asks as I pick up my clothes.
"I'm going to get dressed." I reply, grabbing the IV pole and shuffling off to the bathroom. Shuffling is about all I can manage. I'm stiffer then I thought. A hot tub sounds wonderful. Inside the bag is my Faye costume. Figures. I unhook the suspenders and groan my way into the shorts. Skipping the halter top, I put on the blouse and button it up. Rae knocks on the door. "Come on in!" I call. He walks in, wearing his Spike pants and shirt.
"Our folks are here."
"I'd be surprised if they left." I fish my boots out of the bag. "Now for the fun part."
"Here." Rae picks me up and sets me on the counter while I squeak in surprise. He grins at me. "It's the least I can do." I sit quietly as he puts my socks and boots on for me, then gently helps me down.
"Did you mean that?" I blurt out, holding his arms. His grin softens, as do his eyes. "Please. Tell me before I drown." I whisper, feeling myself melting.
"Yes." He leans forward and kisses me. I melt, my heart shooting fireworks into my brain. This is even better then the first kiss! That was fueled by passion, this one is fueled by both passion and love. I can taste the difference and the knowledge spins my senses.
"Break it up, you two." An amused voice says. We pull apart and see our folks crowded in the doorway. "Time to go home."
There. MUCH better.
