In my continued quest to get sterilized and Be Done With It, I had an ultrasound this morning.
( Read more... )Yes, Uterus, I hate you too.
Dec. 23rd, 2016 12:19 pmApparently a 3 week schedule is much too kind and regular for my repro system, so I've been stuck in PMS since MONDAY.
( Read more... )Gooood morning!
Dec. 25th, 2005 09:28 amOr afternoon, depending on what time zone you're in and when you decide to read this. ^_^
Some sad news from the Queenie household. Kiddo screwed up big time on the Yule presents, AGAIN. So we swiped all his toys, AGAIN. That's twice now in two years. *sigh* Or did I mention this already? Can't remember. Ah well. Still need to call the ex-mom-in-law and inform her gently that what he receives today stays with her until his birthday. It's only three weeks away, no big deal.
Oh, speaking of gifts, my maternal unit really came through yesterday. New glass bakeware, glass mixing bowls with lids and liquid measuring cup, plus nice new spatulas. SCORE! Now all we need are pots and pans! I was very surprised, considering how paternal unit lost his job last month and all they have is his military pension. For the record, he retired USAF a Master Sargeant, which equates to about $400 a month. He's working temp jobs right now and seriously considering a truck driving job. With his heart condition, Wolf isn't so sure he'll qualify.
Playing We Heart Katamari and enjoying it. Presents are harder to find and get, the challenges are varied and seem to lean more to fastest time possible. Replaying challenges gives you the option of going for size or speed and one challenge is strictly two person. Going to see if Wolf's willing to play with me on that one.
Saw The Nutcracker last night on local PBS station. International troupe, mostly Russian, performing in Indiana. *blink blink* Right. Didn't matter. I enjoyed it immensely. Drosslemeyer had more stage time then other performances I've seen, apparently the dancer was playing Drossy and Hoffman(?), an author writing out the story. He cuddled his book at the end. ^_^ Nutcracker was played by a woman at first, which made me blink, but after the defeat of the Mouse King, they switched to a guy. Sugar Plum Fairy got the Prince in the end, which also made me blink. Wasn't Clara's love the key to the spell? It ended with Clara curled up on a chair with flowers in her hand, sleeping next to the female Nutcracker. It was better then, I must admit this, the American versions I've seen. For some reason the Europeans just do Nutcracker better. Better costumes, better dancing, better interpretations. My all time favorite was performed by the London Royal Ballet in the late eighties, I think. It was on VHS at the library and I borrowed it every year I could until it was taken out of circulation. That version had Nutcracker being the enchanted nephew of Drosselmeyer. It started and ended in Drosselmeyer's study, with a portrait over the desk. In the beginning, it was a painting of the nephew and at the end, Drosselmeyer comes home from the party to find his nephew asleep at the desk and a nutcracker in the portrait. Lovely bit of symmetry.
Hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday! *throws rainbow glitter*

Now is the time of the darkest night...
Dec. 22nd, 2005 03:04 pmand the shortest day of the year. All hail the rebirth of the Sun!
Anyhew.
Got up at 8 for presents. Kiddo got a tractor from Wolf's family, which was nice, and a Power Ranger toy set. *twitch* We told them LAST YEAR that we didn't approve of such toys. Guess they forgot. All will be well, we're going to give the PR stuff to Toys for Tots and we bought Star Wars ships to replace them. *eville grin* That's right, our son will be fully geek-educated.
Speaking of geek-chic, we also unwrapped our light sabers and had a fine time banging them around. Wolf got the Dooku one, I settled for generic Jedi and kiddo had the Yoda. Much fun. Us adults also have We Heart Katamari *squee!* and PsyOps, the game where you can make heads go splodey with psychic powers. WHoo hoo!
After gifts, we headed out for breakfast, did a little shopping at Target (got the ships and a wireless controller for the PS2) and Gordman's (scored a sweet gazebo-looking candle holder and two six inch pillars smelling nicely of fresh roses) and put my unemployment check in the bank. Then we got the car washed and came home for good. Kiddo's currently supposed to be taking a nap, Wolf's playing Galatica.
Nice to know that even after our impromptu spending spree yesterday (hatchet for Solstice fire and a live potted Christmas tree) and today, we still have enough for a serious food run and two tanks of gas. *phew* I was a leetle concerned.
No idea what we'll be doing Christmas weekend while the kiddo's down south. Probably go see a movie, *Points at Kandybar*, or just stay at home making sure everything took. *snicker* Was nauseous and rather light headed for a few hours this afternoon, stuffing my face with spinach dip and saltine crackers seems to have helped.
I should probably look up first month symptoms for pregnancy, shouldn't I? Won't be able to test for at least another week. Due to start between the 27th and the 5th of January, but knowing how my body likes to fuck with me...

Twas the day before Solstice...
Dec. 20th, 2005 08:31 amAnd we find Queenie still lounging around in her comfy snowflake jammies (gods, I love this set) screwing around on the internet while the kiddo watches PBS Sprout for the Thomas the Tank Engine clips. Oh yes, and Kipper. And Noddy, because, you know, the Canadians make CUTE cartoons for kids. *nodnodnod*
Still jobless, sigh. Never heard back from the two companies I interviewed for, very sad about this. I felt like I had finally made a connection, y'know? Both interviews ended on such positive notes, I thought. Guess I didn't make the cut, again. Oh well. I shall console myself with anime music, Katamari and candy cane cookies. Yes, I baked! One batch of cookies for a party we ended up not going to because Wolf was too tired and achy. My poor packmate has been fighting low-grade infections for months now. We got a bonus from his company, but we're not sure if we should pay down the Visa, get him to a doctor or hold it in reserve for if/when we get the call that his grandmother has transcended and he'll need to fly back to NY for the funeral.
Yeah, she was hospitalized over the weekend for possible pneumonia and congestive heart failure. Was holding her own as of Sunday morning, haven't heard anything since. MIght call them tonight for an update. A week's advance notice would save us over $200 on the plane ticket, but Wolf is convinced they won't keep her aboveground that long. In fact, his mom told him not to try. *twitch*
I'm jonesing on the expanded userpic options. I really want a Ginji and a Sousoke one, but I'm not finding them. Anyone have any links or suggestions? *bats eyes* I'd be EVER so grateful.
Oh, and that reminds me. Hey, Janny-chan! Did you get that email I sent you last week, with the pic attached? What did you think?
That's about it from the mountains. Driving the kiddo down to the grandparents for Christmas weekend, we're having our stuff tomorrow night. The big question is, should I torture the kiddo by breaking out the gifts tomorrow morning and making him wait until Daddy gets home to open them, or be kind and not reveal until after dark? Decisions, decisions.

Happy, happy, happy.
Got the Christmas lights up, finally. Two brand new strings of the ceramic bulbs, not those little mini lights that I used to have. Finally tossed those in favor of ones that Wolf and I remember from our childhood. Strung them up across the window corner of the living room, they glow so nicely! Also got the garland up, neatly looped and twisted to look like a wreath, with three strips of ribbon binding it in shape and bowed. You can only see the bow I tied on the bottom clearly, but that's ok. It dresses up the altar wall nicely.
My door bow will NOT stay up. I need to find a better tape method.
Got all the present shopping done over the weekend. Didn't get my Mace Windu lightsaber, every time we found one, we barely had the money and put it back. *le sigh* It's ok. I got a generic green one instead and Wolf got the Count Dooku one with the curved handle. Much fun will be had regardless. Also scored two boxes of imported cookies at Sams, one for my folks and one for us. I can remember really yummy shortbread cookies being given as gifts back in Great Britian 22+ years ago, why not do it again. They're even better then I remember, all chocolatey and mild. I have no idea what to get the ex-mother-in-law, so I won't worry about it. The ST club's Secret Santa purchases were decided in Borders, classic science fiction books. OH! That reminds me. There was a display in the Borders for two lightsabers; Luke's and Anakins. $120 for a glass tube that lit up all the way down and hummed beautifully. It was an "official FX release". Wolf and I spent about five minutes taking turns playing. Then I ended up rocking a random infant in a stroller when the mom and Wolf hurried over to the display to show her two older boys. That was entertaining. Borders has a decent manga collection I managed to drag myself out of without touching anything. I impressed the check-out lady by rattling off all the series I'm currently following. Heh.
And finally, I have TWO *waggles two fingers* boxes of Nutcracker Sweet tea. *poings happily* This is a special black tea Celestial Seasonings puts out for the holidays and I missed the last three years. Not this year, nope, nope, nope. Almost cleaned out the display, then decided I should be good and left two boxes. The Gingerbread Spice isn't bad either. Not as strong as the Sugar Plum spice and balances nicely with a teaspoon of sugar.
So, that was my weekend. Still wrestling with the Mary Sue story. I'm stuck on one scene. See three possible courses of action, not sure which one would be best. Unlike some writers, I have no problem abusing my own characters. Take great delight in it, in fact. Witness the Keep, which....
Which...
OH FUCK!!!!
That was this weekend! I wanted to throw one last party and got one measly response.
Oh well. Sometimes a quiet death is best.

LastExile and Bad Discs
Dec. 25th, 2004 01:14 pmOr...a rundown from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day, 1300 hours. Hee!
Made the noodle candy Thursday night. A perfect choice, as Mom hadn't made any. Spent Friday morning cleaning house and wrapping preents, parentals showed up about 1 pm. Gave Dad his box of track and Mom her wicker trays, complete with half the noodle candy. Thrills were expressed. Mom and Dad brought us a sampling of their Christmas cookies, snowmen Peeps for me (yum!) and presents. We visited for about an hour and the kittens NEVER showed their faces. I spotted them less then ten minutes after M and D had left. Bums, I wanted to show them off. They're so cute! Mom did take some digi-shots, hopefully I'll be seeing them in my inbox soon. Family portraits are always nice.
Rest of the Eve was spent lounging around and playing Katamari. Brought the rest of the gifts after kiddo went down for the night, wrapped them and arranged them in front of the fireplace. I had fun doing that. Wolf and I went to bed after midnight.
This morning, we didn't get up until almost 8 am. Comments about kiddo's restraint were shared and as soon as I walked out, he was out the door. Kiddo scored well; besides the matchbox sets and leappad books, he got two Power Ranger toys from auntie and Wolf's grandmother *sighs, shakes head*, a Buzz Lightyear shuttle that makes way too much noise from paternal grandma and a workbench playset from my parents. I checked out the back of the PR toys and saw the blurb about a high school teacher re-donning the Ranger suit. Damn, now I'm curious. I had this thing for the original Blue Ranger, Billy and he's the only one I know of that would do well as a teacher. Of course, that was from the original and Ninjazord incarnations. I stopped watching when the time-shift happened and they went Zeo. *shudder* Oh, those jade-green eyes. Mmmmmm.
Anyhew, there's a LastExile marathon today on G4TTV. All 26 episodes and it started three and a half hours ago. Half hour episode and three commercial breaks per episode. I'm tempted to nap through the rest of the first ten, we've seen them. Or play KD.
Oh, forgot one little thing. The Chronicles of Norrath we got for ourselves? Yeah. Bum disc. Wouldn't even read it. *tempted to take katamari and roll up Sams Club* We have to exchange it tomorrow. Oh, JOY! RAPTURE!! *breaks out Wolf's SCA armor* It does come with a serious multiplay option. It's Evercrack-based, after all. Hee!
*checks over her shoulder* And Wolf's out on the couch. I think I'll grab a pillow and curl up in one of the sunbeams streaking through our apartment.
Blessed be, everyone!

Christmas time and bells are ringing
Dec. 19th, 2004 10:39 pmand Queenie's in a very good mood because for the first time in two years, she could afford presents!! Not many, the kiddo gets 4, Wolf and I gave each other two (One early, more on that later) and we picked up something nice for my parental units, as they are coming up here Christmas Eve and I would have felt incredibly gauche not giving them SOMETHING, especially after they took the kiddo for two weeks.
Yes, shopping was fun! Even at a crowded Walmart ducking through the toy aisles to find First Leap Pad books for the little guy that he didn't have and hunting through the wrapping paper to find something not kitchy or religious (Three Wise Men? On wrapping paper?!?), and muttering over having to buy the wrist-holder precut strips when the "traditional" tape was just outside and remembering at the last minute Wolf and I didn't have stockings. I found two very nice ones, one with a snowflake and one with a wreath, big and knitted. They're very soft.
As for presents, Wolf and I got 4 PS2 games. Since Wolf wanted to play one now instead of waiting a week, we brought in and cracked Katamari Damacy and Way of the Samurai. Wolf's currently going through the Samuari tutorial. Katamari is...well...freaky. It's got really cute music and an adorable main character. But it's harder then I expected. A LOT harder. Wolf ran through the tutorial while I mimicked him. Then we did a few rounds of versus play and he kicked my ass. We ended up taking turns on the first two missions. I was finally getting the hang of it, then decided enough was enough. I'll play more tomorrow after I get off work. If you don't make your goal, the King goes black and the lightening flashes give off that freaky X-ray effect. Plus it pours rain and your character is groveling in the middle of the screen. Did I mention the King sounds like he's totally stoned ALL THE TIME?? X-Play called it "Japanese gaming on acid" and, frankly, I agree with them. But it has just enough of a challenge to it to make it very fun. I recomend, but not if you're on any kind of mind-altering substances. Otherwise, you might get heavily distracted by...everything.
Overall, I'm pleased. Still need to get more chocolate and butterscotch chips so I can make noodle candy, but that will be tomorrow. Maybe I can sweetalk someone into taking me to the grocery store. Or doing it after I deposit my check. Hmmm. I'll decide tomorrow.
Now it's time for bed. Night all!
