Me: *seeing Teenager skip a hesitant near-love confession scene* Don't like the mushy stuff?

Teenager: Meh, it gets boring after the first one.

Me: Wait until you get twitter pated. Hey, have you even been twitter pated yet?

Teenager: I don't like Twitter.

Me: *doubles over laughing* *Teenager threatens to bombard me with popcorn*

I explained what twitter pated meant. He informs me it has not happened yet.

This pays him back for poking me in the cheek with a potato chip. We do not have the relationship my mother and I have.

*SIGH*

I took IDK (Indestructo-kiddo) to a Magic pre release today & dropped him off, not being interested in Magic or seeing Ex SLB. I came home and took a nap instead of sweeping up like I had planned. I felt very sad and tired.

I'm still feeling sad and tired. Eating has not helped this. Taking my Zoloft has not helped this. Letting the kids have the television to beat each other up on Super Smash Brothers so I can come upstairs and write has not helped this.

IDK will be fifteen on Tuesday. 15! As in "in nine months he qualifies for a learner's permit!" I am sad about this. I am sad because it means I will have another drain on my time and pocketbook. I am sad because it means my son is that much closer to being an adult and yet he is so NOT an adult. He has NO common sense and never plans ahead. He spends every penny of his allowance as soon as he gets it. He can cook a few basic things, which is good. And he can follow through on a chore, depending on the reward. I hope he can keep a job. He's going to have to work, I can't afford to get him a car. I apologized for this and informed him I can afford a bus pass. I know high schoolers can work in New York as long as they have papers stating they are physically fit and can meet the demands of the job. But I worry about him losing his temper and yelling at a customer, or a supervisor. Yes, he's better about it, but he still pitches small fits when told to do something when he doesn't want to.

I have nine months to prepare myself for this Big Step. Even though a large part of me wants him to wait until he's twenty-one and has friends or a girlfriend or Someone Else to teach him how to drive. I shouldn't foist this off on Mama A. They'll just end up yelling at each other.

*SIGH*

IDK IS FOURTEEN!!!

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!?!?

*flails*

His birthday present is a new phone. Mama A got him Spiderman cupcake cake. Brilliant! He's getting a bowling party this weekend, I'm staying home w/the Cuteness.

HE'S AS TALL AS I AM!!!

THERE IS STILL A MUSTACHE!!!
*flails*
bloodsong1: (Honestly!)
and I lean in close to explain something to him and I realize something.

He has a fine mustache.

I blink and stare at his upper lip in consternation.

Yes, it's still there.

I blink again and narrow my gaze.

The fine fuzzy line of blond hair is NOT going away.

"Oh my Goddess, you have a mustache!" I shriek.

"No I don't!"

"Yes you do!" I pointed to it. He feels his upper lip, shrugs and gives me his patented SE grin.

"Oh gods above and below. I feel so old!" I moan, dropping back in my chair. The doctor walks in just as IDK starts gloating.

My 13 year old son has a mustache.

*headdesk*

do not survive kindergartners being ill. The Cuteness Chronicles are in their second day of "She vomited for no apparent reason twice in three days and yet afterwards is able to eat just about anything and the only reason she isn't getting ice cream is I'm concerned about dairy."

She stayed home Monday because of getting sick in the car on the way home from Mama A's. I get a call today from the school at 8 am informing me she was sick in the classroom, which is why they want kids to be upset tummy free for 24 hours before coming back. I picked her up and brought her back. She's eaten two decent meals and everything's staying down, so WTF?

It turns out His Royal Highness is suffering from a similar issue, so there will be no drives down to Bermania to pick up mice and visit Queen to Queen this week.

I now have to go roust IDK from his bedroom so we can get dishes done. He was Not Happy about being withheld from his video games until the dishes were finished. Chores, dude. Get used to it.

Because venturing into a 12 year old boy's room is ALWAYS an adventure...

Oh

My

Gods.

We came out with seven bags and three boxes of trash.

SEVEN BAGS

THREE BOXES

The room isn't done. There's a small swatch behind the half wall that still needs to be seen to, and IDK is currently shlepping loads of laundry down the stairs to be done.

We found MY clothes up there!!!

We found Wolf's papers up there!!!

HOW?!?

I think SNB and I have earned pizza. Possibly soda too.

Or "Why I Missed a Weekend".

As some of you know, IDK got his appendix out Saturday. He complained of localized abdominal pain Friday night around 9pm. Echoes of Zahde's story of her appendix adventure rang in my head and I looked up the symptoms and then called Mama A to stay with Cuteness while we trundled off to the ER.

Three hours later, he's saying he's not in pain. I sigh and check with the triage nurses about blood work (its own drama due to IDK's terror of needles). Elevated white blood cell count.

Right. So an infection is in process. We're staying put.

By 2 am, we're in a room, FINALLY, and he gets trundled off for an ultrasound. I see something that looks like a sausage.

By 4 am, we're admitted to Peds and surgery is scheduled for Saturday morning because the surgeon on call didn't need a CT scan to see there's a serious problem. IDK passes out, finally and I get to sleep sometime around 5:30 after answering all the med history questions.

By 8 am, they're ready for the surgery. I drag myself out and along for the walk to OR, IDK has 5 med students observing today. One brunette takes one look at IDK's quiet weeping and covers her mouth, turns away. I smile ruefully. She comes back and talks to him gently, assuring him he'll be comfortable. My rueful smile gets bigger. They wheel him away and I stumble to the Atrium with an escort and then to the cafeteria for coffee, getting lost along the way.

I color, read a magazine, sing "Rooftops" as I'm all alooooooonnnneee. By 9:30 the surgeon and students come, let me know the appendix was very inflamed but intact and due to IDK's nervousness, they want to keep him until Sunday for observation. I'm fetched about 15 minutes later to walk to Recovery and then back up to the room.

Saturday is spent coaxing him to drink and move, with limited success. Saturday night we get him actually up and walking.

Today he ate breakfast, so they let us come home. He's currently watching reruns of Young Justice while I update and catch up.

Thank you, everyone who wished and prayed and worked for IDK's health and recovery!! I really appreciate it and it gives me a lot of comfort to know I have such a wonderful community.

Next time I'm taking the bloody laptop.

So today my Iphone decided to leap out of my coat pocket as I was putting it on a chair and land touchscreen-first on the concrete floor. Which ruined the touchscreen, but none of the interior functions of the phone.

Shaking my head at the random suicidal items that pop in and out of my life, I picked up the kiddos, fed them gingerbread and peanut butter crackers for dinner, and hit the AT&T store.

"Hello, I've broken my phone. Fix please?"

"Sure. Hey, you're being charged for two lines and you're due for an upgrade!"

"Why do I have two lines? I thought that had been fixed last year."

"Not sure, but I can fix it now. So, do you want a new phone? You have an upgrade, after all."

"I heart my Iphone. Can I have another one just like it?"

"Sure and it will only cost you $100."

"How much to fix?"

"$200."

"Right. New phone it is! And can I please get a better case, as this little plastic one loses bits in my pocket."

"Sure. Do you want super duper or just super?"

"I'll take super. Oh goody, there's a purple one."

$145 and about an hour later to port all of my pictures and videos (to which I found a fuckton of line drawings and book illustrations mixed in, WTH?) I have a shiny new phone I'm currently updating through Itunes, which takes for freaking ever when one has a gazillion songs, thank you Zahde. It took me about 20 minutes on the apps alone!

My kiddos were SO GOOD I took them to Dunkin Donuts and bought them donuts and hot chocolate. They were super awesome and behaved and Cuteness likes to find Green Frogs when playing I Spy, no matter what her location.

Queenie is having Triscuts and cottage cheese, because she doesn't want to eat anything too heavy at 9:30 at night. And drinking Cuteness' hot chocolate as she didn't touch it. Chocolate donut, that's my Cuteness. With sprinkles whenever possible.
